WOW, I just saw this -- haven't come over here much since I did my Ikea Hallarum Kitchen back in '04...but I'm SO glad I did. CONGRATULATIONS on all your remodels. Did you design them yourself or with help? One question re the glass tile transition strips: Did the tiles come pre-'softened', as it were? If not, if there are any sharp edges, you might want to rub a tile stone over them just to be sure none of your little guy's friends get hurt if they're running around in bare feet. I do mosaics and I know that everyone who does glass floors makes DEAD sure that every single piece is completely sanded down to innocuousness. Again, congratulations -- I think I'll save your pics as inspiration. GREAT work.

That is pretty, flyleft. I think the reasons it works are the very high ceiling, the continuing brick work on the wall surrounding the mantel, and the raised hearth. Although that vertical brick makes me wonder about maybe doing stone of some sort in a vertical brick pattern instead of the square limestone tiles. Too trendy perhaps?

Thanks bmorepanic. Exactly right, there is a spectrum of styles that would work which creates too many options. In the end, it's hard not to let price be the deciding factor. Why pay $25+ a sq/ft if it's no more inspiring than $7 a sq/ft really? The issue of where to start and stop the tile is another thing we can't resolve, especially because of that angled corner. Oh well, any strong opinions are welcomed because we're about ready to toss up our arms in defeat.

Browns and beiges are devlishly difficult to do well. And even harder for us who are interpreting these colours on our screens. On my screen your roof is not at all orange-brown. I took a shot of it your roof, enlarged it and this is what I see. A pinkish brown that is pretty close to the rosy brown shown below it. The darker colours are a burgundy brown or wine brown. The blue beside it is the complementary colour to pinkish brown - opposite on the colour wheel. On my screen and to my eye, this looks better than an orange door. Even the bit of orange on the pavement at the bottom of your picture seems to clash with the roof. The blue could be lighter or darker or less saturated, but stay in the same general level of blueness vs going more green-blue or more purple-blue. https://www.color-name.com/rosy-brown.color https://www.farrow-ball.com/en-us/colour-by-nature/deep-reddish-brown You could do worse than get a professional colour consultant on this. Whatever you choose, I'd paint some big sample boards and look at it in different lights before you pick up the paint brush.
