Hi Karyn, I'm curious if by C. linearis you mean what's aka C. woodii. I did a search for it & images were very mixed w/ that of C. woodii. If it's NOT C. woodii, I'd be interested, I can swap you the C. woodii variant w/ arrow shaped leaves (instead of heart shaped); I've posted pix of the different shaped leaves either at C&S, Houseplants or Hoya Forum, I forget which. Also have cuttings of C. sandersonii to swap (which hasn't ever bloomed for me, but could & is a cool looking bloom). (PG) Karen

Science is not my best subject, so I'm not sure exactly why...but all I know is my Hummel Sunset Jades and some other varieties of Jades and Succulents gets the prettiest colors when our night temps gets around 55 degrees or below in conjunction with full sun during the day. I leave mine outside all year except when frost/freeze is in the forecast...and usually in 4-6 weeks I notice the nice colors return. My Jades/Succulents normally goes almost dormant when our temps reach around 80+ degrees...I usually don't see any growths at this time till around mid fall. At least that's my experience growing them in Florida...they just don't like the high humidity in the summer. I know they prefer dry conditions and I'm sure that's why they grow much better in the winter for me, much lower humidity. Probably why they grow so much better and carefree in California because of their abundant sun and drier climate.

Thank you, tlbean. My Lisa is doing fine! Thing is, when I got the my hoyas, most were in soil, not the Gubler fine orchid mix. I didn't want to repot them, since it was already fall, so I left them in the soil. I shouldn't have because the tricolor got root rot. I hope none of the others do. I have four others that I haven't put into the lighter mix yet. The Lisa, thankfully, was one that I repotted into the Gubler mix, as its soil was EXTREMELY water retentive. Sounds as if I've been watering a bit too frequently if you only water every 10-14 days in cold months, and weekly in warmer months, aurorawa. I had been watering about every 4-5 days in summer. It's hard to find the right balance with watering for me!

I never said they were all Hoyas folks, you assumed it. I can see why tho ;>) I collect Succulents, Sansevierias, Houseplants (some tropicals, some Holiday cacti) & Hoyas & have been on those 4 GW forums over that 15 yrs. I'm probably down to 60 plants or so. I also try not to keep duplicates, well except for pubicalyxes, LOL. I work full time, am an active Quilter w/ a quilting blog & keep pretty busy. (My quilt Blog is at Karenthequilter.Blogspot.com). Monica, I don't spent any where near the time & energy on my plants as you seem to on your Hoyas. That simply would not work in my life & to me, would seem like work, not a hobby. This is a hobby for me for fun, pleasure & relaxation. Was a long hard fight to learn what I could/couldn't grow here (1/2 the battle), as I live in humid NYC & didn't have AC til recently. Very hot western exposures, radiators under my windows; not the most plant friendly of environments. My collection grew mightily in 2001 when I started a dating a C&S collector & generous man that he & his friends are, whatever I admired, they gave me some of. I came home w/ a full shopping bag stuffed w/ plants. Covered 1/2 my king sized bed. Frankie, I'm still curious, why don't (or can't) you just throw the bits back in w/mother plants. Sure save on space considerations. I doubt I have 20 Hoyas now, I lost a lot of them & most of my less common ones after Hurricane Sandy. Losing my variegated macrophylla actually made me cry. It was so beautiful (someday soon Denise, I gotta replace that).
