Evergreen Shrubs Suggestions needed to protect Tree Peonies
Comments (9)I have seen some beautiful pictures of a single large pink Tree peony surrounded by boxwood, and another surrounded by yews. I would think something like Buxus 'Green Mountain' would be nice. Nothing particularly special, but tough, reliable, easy to trim, fairly fast growing for a boxwood, etc. And Green Mountain would 'max out' at about that height you want. I have grown them in all kinds of different areas and they always do well here. Also the fine leaf texture would go well with the luxuriant Tree Peony foilage. just my opinion of course. Good luck! :)...See Moreneed suggestion for near an evergreen?

Comments (16)Thanks everyone for the feedback!! I bit the bullet and just finished planting 3 Leyland Cypress. I know it will be a chore to keep them in check if I do hedge them and I have the enough garden space to allow the growth. Actually, I think this is the first time I have planted something this large. They will add some dimension to the garden which is a plus. I do have one more question: When I took them out of the pots and removed the ties and burlap, they were in heavy clay type soil and not a lot of roots. They were in 3.5 gallon containers. The growth is about 3 feet high and wide. I loosened and removed some to most of the soil. Is this normal to have so little roots?...See MoreSuggestions for medium-sized evergreen hedge?
Comments (9)Sasanqua camelias will grow far taller than 30-40" tall, but they are lovely. If you try to keep it pruned to look neat through the summer you will remove most of the flower buds. If you decide on a taller hedge and go that route I can highly reccommend a variety called 'Jean May', it is a double pink (flowers look very much like a rose) and starts blooming around mid Oct. Gardenias will also grow much larger than 40" and attract white flies like crazy. Arp Rosemary will also grow quite tall but can be pruned effectively, as witnessed by the little ones they shape like Christmas trees seen in all the big box stores. As for the others, I haven't grown them, so I can't help there....See Morecanishel
