My guest bathroom makeover before and after

I've always been wanting to remodel all the bathrooms in the house. I finally took the time to finish my first guest bathroom makeover as a test. I thought it turned out not too bad! It's also a lot cheaper than expected. The total cost is about $800 for this bathroom. Paint (not much plus DYI free labor), Knob - $10, Marble countertop, sink and installation - $380, Faucet - $150 (Home Depot), Wallpaper 1 roll - $70 (a little hard to see in pic), Mirror $80 (Target), new light fixture $90 (Lowe's), caulk $5

The most difficult part is removing the old backsplash (such a pain!) and put up wallpaper. Minor inconvenience to install faucet and light fixture

It is beautiful. Just shows that a lot can be accomplished with a small budget. Working with the space you have within the confines of the walls is a lot cheaper than removing walls and moving plumbing

I got a great sale price on them &...they came from HD! I'm happy with the quality. They're quite sturdy & solid, not flimsy or cheap feeling. I love the soft-close drawers & doors, & yes, the hardware is what I'd have chosen myself! If you like the shower, will send my tile guy over to you! He'll make you one just like it! The paint color on the lower half of the wall is just a very light lavender. The upper half is more purple. I actually mixed the lavender myself, by adding a little of the purple paint to some white paint. The fake tile (sheet vinyl) floor came from Linoleum City in Los Angeles. I looked and looked and looked for that vinyl and Linoleum City is the only place that sells it. I called a salesman there and asked about it. He said they had a unique contract with Tarkett (I think) to produce this product and he didn't think it was sold anywhere else in the country. Their number one client is Hollywood. Set-building people buy it by the roll to use on the sets. The sheet vinyl creates the look of early 20 Century hex tile floor in a jiffy. :) The light fixtures and medicine chest are reproductions. The light fixtures came from Rejunvenation Hardware and the medicine chest came from Van Dykes Restoration hardware. All these years of writing about old houses and I finally got to use some of the resources I've been writing about. Thanks for all the nice comments. Very nicely done! I’ve been wanting to do my powder room just to experiment with colors and such before a total Master Bath Reno. Thank you for putting in the costs, too.

Excellent transformation of your guest bath! Very smart.

So well done. It is amazing what you accomplished for less than $800 and your own labor. I'm impressed :) This is exactly the type of refreshing of space that is appropriate when putting your home on the market. Not that you are thinking of selling, but for homeowners that do plan to sell, they should follow your lead!

Were you able to remove the mirror yourself? Was it glued to the drywall?

@Architectural Notice Yes the mirror was glued to the drywall. It’s not too hard to remove with the pry bar

My husband said to ask if you had to repair or replace part of the drywall? In other words, did removing the mirror damage the drywall?

@ Architectural Notice it did take some paint off during the removal process so it depends on whether you count that as damaging the wall. You would probably need to do some patching and repainting of small areas after you take off the mirror

Well done! It's beautiful. Is the wallpaper behind the mirror? Does it have a pattern? In the photo it almost just looks like you painted the wall grey.

@Ashley B The vanity was already there when we bought the house, I just painted it. I ordered countertop from a local marble/quartz fabricator. They do all the cutting and installing. The price is by square foot and typically includes everything. If you search “marble supplier” on google map, you should see a bunch come up
