Have I made a terrible mistake?!
Comments (66)Hello, I confess that I haven't read the entire thread, so please forgive me if what I have to add has already been discussed, done and dusted! I love that yellow. I repainted one bedroom with a very subtle yellow, but while in the process, while the old color (apple blossom pink, a nearly white pink) was still showing, I thought the yellow was too strong! but, when it was all finished, it was perfect. You see, it was the contrast with the old paint that through off my perception. Now, I love that gray, and I love the yellow, but to my eye they don't work together. The gray brings out some pink tones in the yellow, and somehow they aren't on the same wavelength either (I don't know what the word for that would be). That makes the cupboards stand out too much (I hope that makes sense). I am sure that you can find another gray that will work better. Once you do, I think that you will be happy with all the cabinets being yellow. Someone mentioned Home Depot. I think that was the store that had a machine that would analyze your color and suggest shades that harmonised -- you picked the color family that you were interested in. Of course, then you could use that to help select a shade in the brand you preferred. It helped me find colors that worked with a difficult existing wallpaper -- and that helped to de-emphasize the disliked background color of the paper. Hope this was helpful. It will all be good when you are done, I am sure!...See MoreHelp!!! My lawn is terrible need advice
Comments (54)I'm not using a sprinkler. Just a hose with a nozzle attachment (I mostly use "shower"). I don't trust sprinklers after the disaster the first day. I think the damage has been done though...most of what I see coming up is along the front sidewalk, so I think that POS sprinkler that was put out there for a day washed a bunch of the seed down hill to the sidewalk. And to the base of the electric box, which is kind of funny...apparently enough dirt got washed on the base to grow out of the metal electric box. I think since that first fiasco with the sprinkler, plus having to walk through the seed bed to remove the sprinkler, it's not really nice and smooth anymore, so there's a little puddling, but it all manages to soak in and go away within a couple minutes... not like it stands there for hours. Right now I'm just waiting to see what I have for day 14. I guess I could also buy more seed and chuck it out by the handfuls to the areas that look to have washed out and see if anything happens lol I just don't know whether to blame the failed areas on the rough start with sprinklers, the time it took to feel like I had a good balance of how much water to give it, or the seed itself. Or impatience (it is supposed to be a "slow-growing low maintenance" seed after all...)...See MorePaint is terrible, help please!
Comments (27)Regarding prep: Like anything, prep is 80% -90% of the job. Let me rephrase that is a silly amount of bad and unneeded prep. However, let's use your analogy a bit, while studying for an exam is a good use of your time, attempting to read every book published on a subject is a poor use of your time. For a bit of play on a couple of old adages, "it takes hard work and effort to get anywhere, but my dog puts hard work and effort into chasing his tail." Read the comment section of the video posted... In this video there were so many things that are just mistakes. Taping everything, is a bit much, painting a vertical straight line at intersecting walls is not that hard. Taping a textured ceiling is completely worthless and will not look good. Taping carpet, and this is especially good when she uses the too small tool that pulls the tape from the wall and gets wet with paint. It is almost a perfect transfer mechanism. Didn't take the outlet covers off. Left the tape on far too long. Take a hair dryer to the uncured paint to get the tape off the wall without scoring the edge....See Moremy bathroom tile looks botched please help! the corners are terrible
Comments (17)Since you seem to love this tile, what about trying to use a white caulk in the corners instead of the contrasting color. It may make the tiles look like they fold into the corner. You can try this before by just cutting some strips of paper and taping them up , then step back and see what you think. On a side note - was the floor tested for water? Those tiles are too big for a regular shower drain - it probably should have been a trench drain, unless there are diagonal cuts through the tile pitching them all to the drain ( can't tell in the picture ). Be careful moving forward - there seems to be some incorrect things happening here. Good luck!...See MoreDavidR
