Comments (2)I don't have a home warranty, but I have read stories like yours on other forums. It seems home warranty companies find ways not to pay out, or if they do make a repair they will contract out to the lowest possible price often resulting in a bad experience for the homeowner. You are fortunate the company is offering $600. Put the money towards a properly done repair. I also suggest canceling the home warranty and banking the premiums....See MoreHome Inspector and appliance useful life
Comments (28)Arrgh, you guys were right! NC Real Estate Guy, the stove was easy--the appliances, as well as countertops and tile backsplash, are all that bisque/biscuit/almond/insert your own beige food here color. (Yea, it was a 1989 special.) So searching for gas stove, with the beige color to match everything, I realized there's pretty much only 1 or 2 choices. Springing for one random stainless appliance would look odd in such an outdated kitchen anyway. Ken and Grubby, do I come across as personally insulted? That's interesting because I WAS insulted!! I know, it's juvenile of me. But the way the letter from the buyer's attorney was written, it was like, Unfortunately your home has been neglected and is in disrepair! I read that and I was like, you jerk, I was living there with my children, I did not live in squalor in an unsafe home with no heat and no working appliances and an electrical system that was about to burst into flames. I know, they just write it like that to try to scare us into coughing up money and/or new stuff and I should have stayed all matter-of-fact. I think... I think the truth is I WAS sort of embarrassed about how shabby this (temporary) home was and so his letter struck a nerve? Liz, I agree with you that the inspection contingency is a cash grab. A cash grab and also a demand that the sellers run around like crazy fixing a bunch of trivial things that aren't really broken. I feel like the price already reflected the age of the kitchen/the age of the house! Of course it did! Obviously if the identical house next door is nicely renovated nobody is going to offer the same for both. I feel like it's a good enough deal for the buyer and I feel like, unlike something she wouldn't have known very easily, like maybe the age of the furnace, any buyer, no matter how inexperienced, would walk into that kitchen and think, Gee, this kitchen is pretty old and these appliances look like they're probably original. So offer the price you're willing to pay for the house as you see it, and the inspection should be for pointing out potential issues (real issues) that wouldn't necessarily be obvious to the average buyer....See MoreAverage/reasonable warrenty length of time for 'seal failure'?
Comments (1)Alex, AFGD is the primary North American division of Asahi Glass Company (AGC) the largest glass company in the world. AFG is primarily a commercial rather than residential glass supplier but, as you have found out, they obviously have a residential division as well. Knowing who made the IGU (insulating glass unit) doesn't tell you who made the window, unfortunately. Also, AFG has used several different types of spacer systems and depending on what system they used in the manufacture of your IGU could make a difference in the longevity of the unit. I won't get into the specific details of IGU construction, but there are systems that routinely offer 20 year warranty against seal failure and are quite successful at maintaining intact IGU's in the field. Unfortunately, there are also systems out there that have failure rates at better than 10% or more...in windows, as in many other parts of life, you often get what you pay for...or in your case, what someone else paid for. Lower end windows often have no more than a 5-year seal warranty. Some builder grade windows offer no warranty at all. Often lower-end and builder-grade windows will have no manufacturer information on them anywhere. On some units there may be information on the inside of the frame or on the edge of the sash, but that does you no good since these are fixed units and you can't see the edge of the sash. You can try contacting AFGD directly, but they will probably tell you that you have to contact the window manufacturer directly...which may be difficult if you can't determine where these windows came from. I wish I could offer better advice, but unfortunately that's about what it is. You might also try contacting the home builder or even talk to a few neighbors if you are in a development and any neighbors have the same builder. Good luck, Alex, and again I wish I had something better to offer....See MoreService calls..warrenty
Comments (28)Suburbanmd..Thank you..I'm just touchy over this..I never ask for service to begin with..both time I called WP to find out about my sanitize it was them that said my machine was not operating as it was designed to do and they set up service. I don't think anyone wanted me to call WP and say that service was double dipping..but just to call and report what was said during the phone call from service to me and alert WP they refused to come here unless I paid them out of pocket. I didn't even want service today...I did want it the first time because I really thought my sanitize didn't work and they would just repair it and all would be fine...remember I'm only just learning about control computer boards. I've since understand WP is not going to tell me if my sanitize should get hot..someone there knows the answer, but there not going to tell the consumers. probable what happened is my machine was one of the last on the assembly line and for some reason they threw a computer board for the newer model Duet with the sanitize with oxi in it and I happened to get it LOL....or my cycles are scrambled..which is exactly what I think. Moroseaz..I will test sanitize using the default settings as you suggest and let you know what happens..but no I haven't tested it this way, thank you. I don't mind this testing, you all know me lol. But to set the record straight LOL....all I wanted was to know if my machine was broke and if not how sanitize is done in this machine...I will not make another call as I won't get answers anyway...also since my allergen is so hot the clothes are un touchable that satisfies me..I'm sure not complaining about that..I love my Duet and as was mentioned all service can do is swap out my control board and believe me..that is not happening..over my dead body. I just will make my own cheat sheet so to speak...Hahaha...See More- 6 years ago
