Need advice on what to do with drop ceiling in kitchen.
Comments (10)Sure you can. Folks here do it all the time. We had drop ceilings with the ugly plastic panels and fluorescents above them. Cutting off the ducts has worked fine for everyone I know. Just look up above the dropped ceiling and then make sure the soffit is empty. Before: After: The first photo was my kitchen when I rented there, second is from a current listing from a similar unit. The short stub wall at the end of the cabinet run has the waste pipe from the upstairs bath, so that had to stay. I did remove the dropped ceiling in mine, which is an easy DIY project, and a neighbor did the trimming for me. I would say that 92 out of a hundred units did this with no problems. (The other 8 just never bothered to do anything to the original kitchen.) ETA, Joseph, I'm interested in the problems you see with this, because I don't know anyone who has had a bit of trouble, not even $5 more on the electric bill, after doing it. No HVAC person has ever fainted from horror or anything, either....See MoreOverhang advice needed for end of peninsula
Comments (5)We just had that same discussion and chose to come out 3/4" on the side so the amount coming over the side is the same as what comes over the doors/drawers. Comments (4)I think it depends, in part, on what you are after. A lot of people view islands as a place to allow people to gather in the kitchen, with the outside edge usually providing a place to sit and gather that is out of the way. If that is what you are after, then the double island will not achieve it. The double island approach is nice, but I think you will find that the seating island will not feel like it is part of the kitchen, but rather a table outside of the action. The peninsula, however, because it is connected to the other counters will feel more integrated....See Moresymmetrical or asymmetrical, and other advice on kitchen.
Comments (34)I don't remember if fridge was Miele or Sub-zero. Have done both the same way. It was panel-ready and we incorporated a vertical aluminum channel(custom colored the match) so no visible handles were used. I really only use Fenix so can't speak to the other materials. It's all about getting quality edges to me so we only use the latest O-edge technology for the most seamless look. "repair with heat" yes to a point. The material is very durable but a really deep scratch can't be fixed like that. I don't know what all your options and quality of workmenship are there. When we do matte painted we use a very high quality moisture resistant form of MDF and we don't use lacquer we use 2K-poly from Italy....See Morewilson853
