Need Help with Shutters and Sprucing Up Exterior of Tri-Level House
Comments (16)Thank you everyone for your comments! Some things I hadn't even thought of! This house had absolutely no curb appeal when we bought it and we don't like the muted "blah" colors. I'm also not a fan of shutters, but every single house in our neighborhood has them. It wasn't until we went inside the house that we absolutely loved it. We knew we had to do something with the exterior, just didn't know what. Eventually we'd like to paint all the siding and brick, but for this year just looking to change some minor things like shutters, replace columns, front door, landscaping, etc. So many great ideas; this is a great starting point for us to tackle this Spring. Thank you again!...See MoreExterior Spruce Up *IDEAS NEEDED*
Comments (27)Have you considered a galvanized metal standing seam metal roof (if in your budget)? That would be more energy efficient (and maybe qualify for a tax credit or rebate--mine did about 10 years ago). The lighter color roof would contrast nicely with a dark charcoal paint. And definitely consider a new door--maybe a three or four-light modern door--with a nice pop or color--red is an obvious choice with the red brick. If you decide to stucco over the brick, any vibrant color would look good against the dark paint. I like the idea of using horizontal wood too, as another poster mentioned. Also, consider using house numbers with a modern font placed either above the garage, horizontally or maybe next to the the garage, vertically. For the house numbers, choose a metal finish which contrasts the color of the paint (eg. dark paint, brushed nickel numbers or light paint, black or bronze numbers. Also consider a downlight, like a modern sconce to light the house numbers....See MoreNeed Mock-up/exterior color for home
Comments (8)First of all, I have to say I love the pink siding. I know you don't like green, but since the roof has green maybe a teal would work. I was thinking of Pacific Sea Teal for the trim, which has a lot blue and just a hint of green Santorini Blue would look good on the siding. See the top half of your house in this combination. I mocked up Santorini on the trim and Ancient Ivory on the siding as another possibility, but you could reverse it and put Santorini on the siding and ivory on the trim....See MoreNeed to charm up my exterior
Comments (10)Here is a third opinion that thinks you should focus on the landscaping. On the right side there is almost no foundation plantings Plant a variety of bushes with different heights, color and texture. Some flowering, some evergreen. Include bulbs, perennials and annuals. The small tree in the middle of the yard looks like it is on its last leg. If it is not healthy, replace it with an ornamental like a cherry or a redbud. The right side of the yard could use one as well. It looks like there are yews in the yard that can be removed. I wouldn't put a railing on the porch if you don't have to. Eastern Redbuds are one of my favorite ornamental trees with early gorgeous buds followed by beautiful mahogany leaves. The early flowers bloom on the tree's bare limbs....See Moreemmarene9
