I suspect that some of the outter roots in the pot may have frozen. While this palm, in the ground, can take some below freezing temps (ours did very well at -8C (-18F) a couple of years ago, in pots, they won't do well when temps hit freezing. It should recover though. Perhaps check the soil and make sure it's not wet or dry. It might need some water to recover. Plus, I'd suggest not taking it outside again for a while. Perhaps let it rest up a bit. It may not like the moving in and out either.

The Delaware Bay Coast and interiors of the Peninsula--Dover & Georgetown, DE and Salisbury, MD are indeed are zone 7b. Those areas are often 10 degrees F colder on winter nights than those of us hugging the coast. The AHS update even places eastern Cape May County NJ and the southwestern corners of the of Maryland's Eastern Shore along the Chesapeake in zone 8(a). http://www.ahs.org/publications/the_american_gardener/pdf/0305/USDA_Map_pp_30-35.pdf I've only seen one mature, hurricane cut Sabal (8' tall) in Southern Delaware, a few miles inland inland from Bethany Beach at a garden center. It's wintered over the past two years and the crown is mostly burned, but it's been greening up. I think hurricane cut is a big mistake here as they don't recover well in marginal areas. It might have done better planted right in town Bethany Beach. Smaller, potted Sabal Palmettos with a good root ball and crown intact would have a better chance of long term survival, but they are hard to come by. I have a test bed of Sabal seedlings in an isolated, protected back dune area among other beach shrubs, grasses and such. I'll report on if they survive the winter. There are several other local Sabal enthusiasts with them in their gardens. There are probably more than I realize or know of.

Not yet. But when I watered my palm he washed into the soil. I haven't seen him since. If I see signs of him again (of course I most likely will) I will do the coffee thing. Should I use organic coffee to prevent leaf or root burn?

Soil is very heavy clay here in the desert. Seriously like concrete trying to break through it. But I added probably 30% mulch/compost to it before planting. It's the same soil as all the other palms that are doing good. Do I need to fertilize or water less/more? Maybe I didn't dig the hole deep enough? I loosened it probably close to a foot beneath the root tips. I may dig it up to see how water-logged it is. Should you let these palms soil dry out between waterings, or keep them somewhat damp?
