Can anyone tell me exactly what kind of fireplace this is?

The home was built in 2002, brick fireplace, with a vent above the mantle and another vent close to the floor. It has a knob you turn that will start the blower once the fire hits a certain temperature. I’m really just wondering if there are more decorative vents I could replace these with or if the fireplace has a model number? I have searched all over the internet and found that it may be a masonry, old style heatilator, but none of those seem just right to me...but idk....

Wow, that's really interesting. Have you consulted a fireplace specialist? Looks like you might need some upgrade work done if you want to make it look different than it does now. Finding decorative vent replacements those exact sizes and then getting them installed could be a real challenge. There are a lot of things that can actually be done with the fireplace facade itself that might be easier for you, including stone washes that lighten or change the color and even re-covering the stone with different materials for a more updated look. Some people are even using really upscale materials like marble to re-cover a fireplace area. A lot of it depends on your overall decor scheme and the look you want.

the make and model, and serial number should be on the rating/data plate. in a wood burning fireplace it should be located as pictured, in side the fireplace. pull the screens away from the sides and look up near the top on the side of the opening with a flashlight

Thanks Harry. Indeed, nothing is wrong, amcknight4. I was simply commenting on the color, which is tending to brown from the usual purple-blue tones. It is getting lots of sunshine. Producing the recent inflorescence uses up limited metabolic resources. The number of dessicated leaves around the base tells me that this particular plant is doing what it needs to do to stay alive in the middle of summer with limited shade and water. It is recycling leaves. The increased rate of leaf senescence is accompanied by the familar colors of Fall. Growing plants hard means to grow more like habitat plants compared to pampered greenhouse specimens. It was a compliment, not a criticism, complaint, or call to arms. Brad

Well, they both can. But the plant pictured above doesn't have the 'second ‘leaf’ (flower bract)' typical of H. hypoglossum.

Hello, I purchased my home about 2 years ago, it has the fans directly built into the sides of the mantle. They are a version of Rumford heatilator. They were popular from the 50's to the 80's. It works on sort of an indirect heat transfer as well as the fireplace.

My home was built in 76, it is a great addition in the cold Pennsylvania winters we get up here.
