At SAMS the other day...

These aren't my pictures, but Newfoundland, Canada (where Casey lives) got hit with a major snowstorm a couple of days ago. Huge snowfall. This is the same highway that's being plowed.

Jasdip, those pictures are just staggering! I can't imagine having to be in that kind of snowstorm. It's scary to say the least. Thanks for sharing them and all the best to Casey.

That's a sweet painting, Susan. It's especially timely given what the koalas have had to endure recently.

Wow, Jasdip, that's some snow! My dad was from Nova Scotia and he often talked of Newfoundland. He spent quite a bit of time there as a young adult. I hope Casey is doing well.

This is a crown of thorns succulent that has bloomed year round for me for nearly 3 years! I have never had a plant do that before. I just love it. It's now 16" high.

I saw these at the grocery store the other day and had to touch them because I didn't think they were real. I've never seen an orchid this color before and even wondered if they had been dyed somehow. I don't know why these posted so large; they've been resized but are still huge - sorry about that!

Dawn, vertically oriented (portrait) photos tend to post larger than horizontal (landscape) photos. The default size is determined by with width of the photo - not the height; i.e., photos are resized to fit a predetermined width, regardless of how tall they are.

Dawn...they're fed BLUE water, colored with common food coloring. I purchased 2 that were out of bloom and am now enjoying the HUGE white blooms. Mine really were BIG! :0)

Thanks for the info, Lars. I knew vertical posted larger than horizontal, but these just seem larger than usual to me. Maybe it's my eyes that are off today!

Nicole, I knew it had to be something like that! Beautiful as it is, that color doesn't look at all natural.

I had a beautiful blue orchid just like that one. All blooms after those died off were white. But still big beautiful flowers. I had it in almost continuous bloom till the flood took it.

Dawn, that looks like a Georgia O'Keefe painting!! I love it. It's beautiful even if it isn't natural!

Re: the snow in Newfoundland - they got 30 inches in 2 days, and that with almost 100 m.p.h. winds.

People told to stay home.

About 70 inches since just before Christmas.

They often get the tail end of storms that come up the east coast - and sometimes tail ends can be unpleasant (even with dogs).

We got some snow Fri and Sat, with some rain. Landlord hadn't ploughed the lane, I wondered whether more snow overnight would mean I couldn't get out. I put a snow shovel into the car before departure: better safe than sorry, Dad used to say.

The undercarriage of the car dragged over the snow a bit as I came through a small drift just outside the door, and I doubt whether there was visible dragging as I came down the lane: will see when I go home (if before dark).

Moni, yes that is Lake Superior in March.

The national radio says that in the St. Johns area of Newfoundland they got about 2 in. more snow today. Schools and businesses continue closed, all vehicles but gov't. service ones ordered off of the roads. Military ordered in to offer help with clearing.

Some more snow here during the day plus some rain made it crusty and heavy and I couldn't tell whether the undercarriage had dragged as I departed, probably did some of the time on my return.

Car now safe in barn.
