Dining & Living Room Color Paint Advice Needed
Comments (30)Can I also second getting a local color consultant to come to visit this very pretty home? I have also had tons of luck calling the SW color line (and its free!). They helped me out of a color jam a few years ago and just recently again. I painted my outside trim SW Fleur de Sel. It was a mistake. It can read very blue-gray. I was heartbroken but it was too late. Now I needed to paint my front door and it needed to coordinate with my reclaimed orange brick and now this odd trim color. My husband wanted a yellow and wanted to pick SW Sunny Day. I about cried. The SW phone line came to the rescue (with no pics nonetheless) and suggested Colonial Yellow. It looks fabulous. They have been so nice on the phone every time. Now I have not had the same luck with BM phone line, but did use one of their local home consultants once and it was a pretty good experience....See MoreNeed Decor Advice for New Home Living/Dining Room
Comments (5)I would suggest a much larger and more colorful rug for the sitting area. Your TV setup looks awkward and unattractive. Can it be changed somehow? I would paint the brick wall in the dining room the same color as the other walls to open up the whole space. I would remove that large mirror and put a smaller painting there and also remove the tall bookcase(?) near the couch which adds nothing to the decor. The mantle should be cleared and some much larger items placed there. I don't know how you feel about painting the fireplace the same color as the wall, but that would also make the room look more cohesive and spacious. I'm afraid the ceiling lamp by the front door looks too small and droopy to have any impact. You need something much larger that has a greater presence. Another thing to consider is white blinds instead of brown ones on each side of the fireplace. Again this will open up the room. I would remove that small table to the right of the TV with the little lamp and put a great-looking floor lamp there. Is there some way you can do without the bulky ottoman? I think that's one reason that area looks so crowded. I would think about replacing it with a small but sturdy glass and metal coffee table through which you can see the rug, giving the illusion that there is almost nothing there. Hope I haven't overloaded you with too many ideas. It's your home and you can do whatever seems right to you. If you follow even a few suggestions you might find that some of your concerns are removed....See MoreBoho-Modern Living Room and Dining Room. Thoughts and advice?
Comments (5)I think your design is a great starting point. Love all the plants you have going on. That ottoman doesn't fit the style very well, but I think a different ottoman could. Something more like the one in hollybar's first pic. An ikat patterned fabric would be great. Also, you'll notice that every inspo pic has bright white walls. Yours are very neutral, so they'll likely work, but your room might feel a bit different because of the color. I would avoid using lots of different colors, since boho tends to be very neutral. The pop of color on the ottoman is all you need. Try to keep the art fairly subdued, or very natural feeling. Love the white frames and mats in your design. Botanical prints could work well. Or maybe use more structural art pieces instead of prints. Look through all those inspo pics for ideas. Texture is super important to make boho work, especially since there's not a lot of color. The interest comes from the texture. Wood, leather, metal, knit are all great textures to introduce. Subtle patterns are good too. Get a very textural rug as a good base. Maybe sisal or more shaggy....See MoreNeed advice on rug for 14x 18 living room with adjoined dining room
Comments (4)Thanks so much for your reply. I was trying to coordinate and yet not compete with the adjoining dining room rug which has similar colors but much bolder. If you zoom into the picture below you can see a patch of it in the right hand corner opposing the sofa. Your suggestion are really nice and appreciated. I see that you used a 9x12 rug. Does you think a 10x14 would be too big?...See Morecawaps
