Sump Pump- no basement

My side yard floods like crazy and water ends up leaking into the house. I sit lower then my neighbors so I get stormwater runoff from at least two house. Previously I’ve had the yard regraded and had a French drain installed to solve the problem, both have failed to do much. I’m now talking with a new landscaper that suggested a sump pump. I’m in Florida and do not have a crawl space or basement. When reading about these systems I have only found them in reference to homes with these spaces. It this a smart solution that is done without a crawl space/basement, or have I found another dud landscaper?

Do you have the basement plumbed for a future toilet? It may not be a drainage sump at all, but a holding tank that the subteranean toilet will dump into. Systems like this usually have a grinder/pump to lift the sewage up to septic tank level. In this situation, it would be caulked shut and you definitely would not want to drill any holes in it lest you permit it to vent into your basement!

You should seriously consider a backup sump pump system too. If you lose power your main sump pump won't work. If you have good municipal water - look at water powered pumps. They're powered by water pressure. This video talks about how they work. But if you have well water or city water that's unreliable, then a battery backup is the way to go. Copper pipe won't help, because although copper may be more dense than PVC, the pipe walls are much thinner. Cast iron is much quieter than PVC because it is very dense and massive. But it's impractical in that use, I think. Experiment with dense, thick pipe wrap if the noise actually is water flowing. Isolate everything. Those metal brackets are not what you want; suspend the pipe as Beth H suggests. You might also explore quieter pumps. The key to quiet is to not produce the noise in the first place (i.e.: carpeting the upstairs floor is more effective than insulating the first floor ceiling).
