Lighting Design Dilemma living room

lighting for Knotty Pine ceiling with oak beams HELP!

Throughout my entire house our ceilings are knotty pine with oak beams. I do not want to sheet rock the ceilings to add ceiling lights, We recently did that to our kitchen and I really miss the look of the knotty pine in the kitchen. There are no places to run electrical wires through the beams. We currently have industrial lighting on the sides of the walls. I really hate the look of it. If anyone has any creative suggestions or have track lights added somewhere to light up their rooms. You can see the wall lights from this photo. They are covered by custom light coverings. ( Hideous). Thank you in advance!

what's underneath the pine? attic, floor space? can't you run electrical above it and do recessed lights?

you could do a faux beam (or sheath) over the real beam

the other option is conduit painted to match your beam stain

or, some type of cable railing lighting

Hi Beth! Above the knotty pine is plywood, insulation, TPO roofing. Our roof is completely flat. I actually like the idea of faux beams over the existing one. That wouldn't be a bad idea. The beams have natural cracks in them which are an eye sore. The faux beams would those come with lighting pre installed or is this something that is custom made? Asking because through every room in our house we have the knotty pine with beams. I'd want to have the faux beam matching as close as possible.

Well, I've called all around and any of the wood "reclamation" companies aren't real interested in pine boards. Those that may be would require me to take it all down, sort by size and stack and bind all the boards up for shipping, and they're in different states I figure they're not going to pay much if anything for it once they figure their transportation costs. I could give it to habitat for humanity I guess, but again, someone would have to carefully dismantle it all, stack and take it there and we don't have a truck. I was hoping against hope there would some company out there that would come and take it down and haul it away - I'd give it to them for free just for their labor. Now if it was cherry, or hickory or something interesting like barn siding I think I'd have some takers! :-)

The knotty pine is beautiful, especially in the ceiling. They look to be in very good condition. Is this a family room? If so, I wouldnt do anything until after you have lived in there for a while. You may decide you really like it. If you really think you want to paint it, after you have lived with it for a few months, it can always be painted later. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but, the floors appear to be in decent condition too, and the little bit darker than the walls. They do go good with the knotty pine. Congratulations on your new vintage home. Please keep some of that vintage character. You can always remove, but, you can never put it back, like it was.

The most inexpensive would be to paint the ceiling and beams white.I think it would certainly brighten up the kitchen. Then you can do harwood floors that blend, not exactly match the walls. IMHO I would paint all the wood. Sometimes for me, it works, like in a log home for instance. If you want to leave all the wood, how about luxury vinyl tiles for the floor, with a nice area rug.

Wow you have some incredible views. Congratulations on this beautiful home. Painting the pine trim and putting in a wood floor throughout that you love will dramatically change this space. And if you look at images you can find 100s of white trim houses with beautiful views. But...... you could embrace the pine. Maybe paint some of the trim white but keep some of it to add some warmth. Embrace that pine and create a space that is unforgettable like your views. What style do you like? Any inspirational images? If you decide you just have to paint... you could prob run the wiring inside the sheath somehow and then recess some smaller lights in the faux portion. (like in the picture)
