Will leaving hips for getting seeds make a rose bloom less?

I have a rose that I thought would be fun to try and get some seeds from next spring, but last year it only put out one (admittedly very large, very beautiful, quite fragrant) bloom and spent the rest of the time being dug at by the neighbor's dogs and being eaten by the deer. If I pollinate a hip and leave it to mature on the plant until it is ready to harvest, will that make the plant less inclined to set more blooms? Assuming of course that it is actually a repeat bloomer, which I am mainly basing on the fact that it looks quite HT to my admittedly inexpert eye!
