I think I am leaning more towards the chairs closer to the fireplace because I think it looks less awkward also. Les917, I moved the sofa out some more and I tried to put the chairs/table closer together so they would fit completely on the straight wall as much as I could without them looking squished together. The problem is that I think the chair by the window is too close and it feels like when you are sitting there that you are up against the wall. Also when you look at the whole room together, It doesn't make good conversation flow ( for lack of a better word), when one side of the room's furniture is closer to the fireplace than the other. I hope I took good enough pictures to demonstrate this. So then I moved the chairs/table so they sit pretty much directly across from the couch. What do you think if I put a tall floor lamp between the chair and the window, so it would be in the center of the wall between the cutout and the adjacent corner. Then I could put two slightly rectangular, taller than wide pictures side by side centering with the remaining wall space. I might even put a tall picture on the part of the angled wall that goes to the ceiling. Am I making any sense? Since the cutout isn't in the center of the wall I think the tall lamp would help even it out and then the 2 pics next to each other and a possible 3 pic on the angled wall will help make the furniture not look awkward. What do you think?

yes the glass buffet with drawers can come out and the unit can be reconfigured, however the room is about 22 ft long so I would still need to make sure that any new seating is about 8-10 ft away from the TV. So i could take the buffet out and move it but then the rest of the unit with the TV will have to go on the wall where the couch is now, so that we can watch TV at a comfortable viewing distance. This would probably be the “easier” and the better solution. Decoenthusiaste how would you position a couch like the one you recommend? Against the windows?

I moved some things around and I think I like it better. I know the rug is too small and it shouldn't be "floating" but I don't want a new one until we get the other changes done. I moved the dresser into the dining room and hung (probably too high but couldn't convince 6'3" hubby to lower it and he had a point about being out of reach of the tornado. haha) the sign and pictures that had been on the mantle in the dining room. We also took off the ridiculous trim board they had up because we will be replacing the slider soon. So many things in this house like that silliness. I organized most of the books and moved the bookshelf. And grabbed a few canvases (I know they are small but can't remember where we left my big one) I did the flower, my dad painted the one on the right in Vietnam in '68. We need to fix the coffee table my dad built that's in the garage, I'll put it in front of the sofa, it's a little under 6'long, so it might be technically too big but, again, it's what I have. How'd I do?

I think your furniture layout looks good. I would also say two chairs, instead of the loveseat, may work well and give you more flexibility with placement. Swivel chairs could be one option.
