Week 12: What's in your ...
Comments (104)schicksal-do you mean the laminated front? That's pretty much the only way it's done out here. Out west they sell 2cm granite and put it on top of plywood. Usually 5/8, but with frameless, has to be 3/4 to allow doors and drawers to open. Again, my vision for the kitchen for years was pretty much YOUR kitchen. But I'm very happy with the way this is coming together. I haven't talked of anything non-kitchen recently. The weather's been a bit cooler than average, which is great to me. I've trimmed, weeded, and staked some. Lots more in the yard that I planned to do this summer, just like there's lots more inside I planned to do, but that's par for the course. I planned classes early this morning, because I was sure they wouldn't be here for the install before 9. But they said 8-9 and I didn't think anything of it, yet my classes go to 8:30. DH is not happy being 'alone' when they arrive. I put out a request for someone to cover, and we'll see. If it stays the way it is, we'll survive. ETA: Second class covered. Free to supervise fridge and range delivery/install. :) Will cover for someone tonight. The HD GC is also coming out today. Or sending someone. Or... Not sure. DH talked to the wife. Don't know if he's planning in doing the sink and or the electrical himself of if he's sending people. Maybe the cabinet guy to finish up? Crazy that I don't know. Comments (20)Cathy, A week is not very long - she's still adjusting, and like cats who've come from other high-stress situations like some shelters it just takes time for them to relax andfor their true nature to come out. Dont worry about in breeding or whatever - it just sounds like typical kitten behavior to me. Young animals simply dont understand about people trying to sleep and they dont know that they're hurting someone, esp if they were taken away early and didnt learn from sibs/mom how to inhibit their aggression in play situations. ... or in this situation which was probably quite chaotic and stressful. I dont care for spray bottles - like you're going to have one at your finger tips at all times? Suppose you could get a holster for it, but as Cooper wrote a simple yell of OW accompoanied by shrugging her off will suffice. I had a cat who for whatever reason liked to take a flying leap and climb me like I was a tree. This was bad enough in winter, with layers of clothing on, but in summer - claws digging into bare skin - ouch! A couple of loud yells took care of it. If you arent already doing so, Id still be keeping them separate and then switching their spaces periodically so they can start getting used to each other's presence and scent but without having to confront each other all the time. Putting up a screen door temporarily is a good idea too. Let your old guy set the pace for how quickly the process takes. As much as possible, keep up your routines with him and he should have the esteemed positions like sleeping with you at night or whatever your routines were before the kitten came....See MoreOK to Use 12-12-12 Fertilizer in Fall?
Comments (30)Exactly. Once again, while Logan errs in making blanket statements, it is nevertheless true that mostly we overdo fertilizer, not under do it. As davidrt states, many a fine plant composition never or almost never receives fertilizer. Please folks, let's not let the marketing needs of horticultural supply houses dictate how we manage our landscapes. IF organic matter is allowed to accumulate in a more or less natural fashion......or if instead, the use of organic mulch is employed for all of its benefits, then most normal landscape plants should have their needs met in most situations. I grow everything from the trees up at my place up north-grown for no particular reason than love of trees, but I also design, install, and maintain the most impermanent of plantings-annual display beds. Those we fertilize, employing mostly spoon-feeding approach throughout growing season. So I'm not anti-fertilizer, but it seems like the more permanent a plant is in the landscape, the less we should think about that as a plant that needs fertilizer. Almost never the case that the plant actually "needs" fertilizer. And even in those cases where it might do a little something, that is for the benefit of the impatient human being at the other end of this conversation, waiting for something to happen! Plants run on their own time and it is a far cry from our rushed, hysterical processes....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 12/11
Comments (13)Hello everyone! @Funkyart I hope you continue to feel better. It is a hard time of the year to not feel your best. There can be so much to do. ' @gsciencechick - that's a lot of fiber! I guess as a vegan it might add up faster. If I'm really trying I can get to 35-40 but that's chia, flax, or basil seeds and berries in my smoothie, a bean and veggie soup, and lots of veggies in a big salad. I have a bar I eat called Papa Steve's no junk bar that has a lot of fiber, I think 16 grams. If I do all of that in one day, maybe I could get that high. My issue is a lot of fiber comes with carbs, and I can only do so much at one time without a spike. But, no one seems to disagree that fiber is great for you, so it's a great focus. I had my health coach meeting this week, which ended up being a lot like a therapy session. I'm really getting in my head about all this contradictory nutrition and weight loss advice. So, we are going back to the basics. Walk 10,000 steps a day, resistance training 3-4 times a week and do my best to control glucose spikes with the healthiest food choice available to me at that time. I started rationalizing food as their macros, instead of the overall health benefit (in my mind) No one can seem to agree on a lot of things, but for me, if I believe I'm doing the right thing, then it's a lot easier to do. But once you go down the rabbit hole, there are a lot of opinions on what is healthy. And it can make a girl crazy! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! - those are parts I am trying to strengthen. I can see some improvememts already, and that is making it a lot easier to stick with it. I have found some exercises I enjoy doing, put my dumbells in front of the TV, and just go. I'm very happy to have become mostly consistent with that. Hope everyone has a great week ahead!...See MoreBookwoman
