Sectionals are always the wrong awkward choice. You need a couple of sofas and chairs.

Once you get another chair or maybe 2 chairs in the room plus your coffee table or ottoman, you will see your sectional is the right size. Finish the room to get an idea. IMPO, your sectional is fine. I don't usually like sectionals because too many people buy an oversized one and squeeze it into a room. You didn't do that. Congrats!

What don't you like about the rug?

I'm trying to "transition" to a more tranditional vibe but I don't know if I'm ready for a rug that is "that" transitional. It has all the colors I'm trying to bring into my open floor plan so we'll see. I plan to live with it for a few more days. Thanks Denita.

Can you return the sectional? I think two couches facing each other and a few nice chairs would fill out your lovely room better.

Not an option right now. I may be able to move it to a different room at apme point but I would like to try and work with it in the interim since it meets our family's needs.

I'm not a pro. I would lay the rug out as you intend to use it; that is, put it under the sectional fully extended into the room. The good thing about transitional is that it also works with traditional accents if that is where you plan to go with your chair(s) and accessories. I'm sure a few pro's will be by soon to give you more detailed and professional advice. I like your rug:) It gives you some great accent colors to work with for your other seating and ottoman.

I like the rug and the color/style of the sectional. I agree the sectional looks too small for the room but it’s hard to fit sectionals. Can you find another spot in the house for this sectional? If so get a couple big sofas facing each other and maybe two small modern reclining chairs facing the tv if you’re looking for that comfortable position to watch tv. We also got a sectional - bigger than yours and regret it.

Couple more options if you’re really trying to make it work.
1, ask the furniture maker if they can add another seat on the tv facing part. It shouldn’t be hard to make it and attach with brackets.
2, Get some square coffee tables to extend the length of the sofas on each side. Then line up two chairs in front of the non - tv side of the sectional. Making it a U shape. Try a round table to break up the shapes a bit. Rug should go halfway under to sofa/side tables and chairs.

Beautiful place. As others have said sectionals are harder to work with than separate pieces. I do think the sectional will work though with a tweak in furniture arrangement. First center the rug with the fireplace and windows but turned the opposite direction. Get some furniture sliders to help with moving things around. They really work. Then place the sectional so that one side looks out the window and the other faces the fireplace. Things NEED to be away from the walls so you can walk around everything. Then take the round table you have and center it at the windows. You can then look for 2 low chairs for either side of it for more seating. Leave just enough room at the window to be able to close the drapery. With that great natural light from the windows add some live plants. They will thrive. Good luck. Love what Beverly is showing you in her two pics above for your room! Looks like your sectional works perfectly with the chair locations, ottoman/coffee table and side table locations and lighting she mapped out.

You mentioned the sectional meets your family's needs. What do you mean by that? # of seats? Something else?

CDR, yes number of seats. We are a family of four. Even though it will hold all of us, I don't see us all on it at the same time, thus the additional chairs.

Can you add a seat to the sectional? Ideally the peace facing the tv. Then add chairs etc.

The problem with a sectional like the one you have is that the middle seats are rather useless. Maybe your kids are young and it doesn't matter, but the 2 middle people knock knees.

I would take out the corner and make it into a sofa, if possible. Other possibility is to add a section to the leg facing the tv.

Absolutely love our sectional and two chairs. We are a family of five and all fit on it beautifully.

I personally just like looking outside when there are massive windows rather than have my back to them these rooms show my basic idea. having the chairs with a small table between them in front of the windows will help make the room feel more spacious and open. and block less of the view. the 3rd picture is not a sectional but shows the the same can be done with sofas. the thing that will help the most is getting the rug positioned right first. then bringing the furniture in to have a comfortable conversation grouping. getting things off the walls when you have the space to do it is key

Don't regret buying the sectional. It's small scale will work fine in the room. If you have small kids watching tv or reading with you snuggled in the corner is nice cozy family time. When you bring things into a room that you love, you will love and enjoy using the room. Give it a chance. Live with any furniture arrangement for a week or 2 before changing it again. Even if it feels strange taking furniture away from the walls rooms just seem more comfortable and pulled together. Look at houzz pictures and save every one you like. you'll eventually see common colors and arrangements If you really like a picture use it as a blueprint on getting your room together. You don't have to copy it exactly just copy the feel.
