Mistake??I know-couldn't resist.It's that time of year.
Comments (41)Just to add to PG's comment. Another person asked about an Aralia they own (I believe theirs is also a 'Ming') and I gave some input based on my experiences with growing one. Here you go: "They enjoy humidity, so place them on a pebble tray (I didn't mist mine, didn't seem to mind just the humidity from the pebble tray). To keep them from getting leggy, bright light is suggested. I had mine about a foot away or so from a South window. It got afternoon sun with no problem. They don't like to be wet whatsoever (no houseplant wants to be wet though). You will want to allow it to dry out almost completely (don't let it dry out completely, but don't keep it as regularly moist as you would other houseplants that want to stay moist all the time). It might throw a diva fit and lose leaves, I think I read this can happen in the winter (maybe something to do with the change in the amount of sunlight). It will re-sprout again so it's not dead." It's better to not water on a schedule as that lady advised you, your conditions may me different than hers and you may need to water more or less often than she does. I hope you found this information useful. Planto...See MoreIts that time of the year...
Comments (10)Ryan, There was a time when I had hundreds of amaryllis bulbs in pots that I moved in and out of the house every year. I had blooms at all times of the year because I did not force dormancy on the old bulbs, only the new ones I purchased every year for the Christmas holidays. My family is used to seeing an Amaryllis display every year at our house and a White Amaryllis display every Easter. Unfortunately, I had to divest myself of most of my collection because the pots were getting too much for me to move around twice a year every year. Maybe I'll move to a location that does not require me to move the pots. Have fun with your new obsession, because if it isn't an obsession now, I am sure it will be soon. Comments (35)I'll share it with you all, since we've steered this one to customer service. Occasionally I'll need something that can only be found at a retailer and I drive 1.5 hours to the place. The way they do things, you select what you need and find a sales person to radio in and start/add to your ticket. After you find everything you want, you go pay then come back and load. If you want something from heal in, sales will direct the yard crew to dig and reburlap when necessary. So here I am braving the impending rain storm, traipsing through the boxwoods when a crew member asks if he can help? I mildly surprised to hear english, say oh sure I'll take these 1st 10 green velvets. He yells to the crew and away they go, I say, don't wait for me I'll be awhile so just set them at the edge...thanks, he nods. later I'm just getting to the counter in the store when the storm hits, I pay and decide to wait it out as many customers were. A young man blusters in behind the counter and annouces on the PA, due to the storm they will be closing early then proceeds to irritatingly freak about someones 10 boxwood and who was it and did they even pay for them and are they going to get them yadda yadda, he ignores the soft spoken sales girl who is trying to say that I've paid and am standing right there. So I raise my voice a bit and tell him that I will load my plants when I have less chance of being hit by lightening! He's mad because the crew is evidently waiting and I say, tell them to go, I'll load myself... here it is, your moment of zen... He says, you can't load them, you don't know how heavy they are... mam, they're too heavy for you. OMG!!!! I look the boy in the eye, standing there in my company uniform and work boots, felcos at the ready and am perfectly stunned. and all I can say is a very sarcastic EXCUSE ME, who do you think will be planting them? me thinks the fat little effeminent boy has never lifted a boxwood himself, as I'm sure he thinks that hard work is for the latins... Comments (39)DH and I took a walk down the road...we were gone about 25 minutes...stopped and looked at some things, wandered in close to the pond that's on the property next to ours and wondered why anyone would throw trash there. We both hate litterers!!! Sally, The bobcats around here aren't as big as lions and tigers so they don't look as menacing, but I'm still staying away from them. That was twice this week we've seen them. We knew they were around and have seen them on occasion, but not like this. Rosa, Glad your sister wasn't hurt in the encounters with deer. I know it can get bad. My DH hit one when we lived in Indiana on his way to work one morning. It doesn't take long for those farmers to get the carcass off the road and in the freezer! We have a lot of birds, too. We used to have an owl that would come out every night and sit on the top of an old dead tree trunk...DH named him Cedric...he's still around, but not as much since a storm took the trunk down. Pileated woodpeckers are fun...we had a flock of Indigo Buntings last spring....beautiful with the sun shining on them. I love to see the egrets in the median as we drive around. DH is up from his nap, so I can run the sewing machine now. @:) KOKO...See Morekitasei
