Exterior Advice Desperately Needed
Comments (34)Would like to post an update to my original plea for advice on painting the exterior of my home. It’s been 2 months and the contractors have finished all of the projects. I have to admit, I am so pleased with the outcome and I sincerely appreciate those that took a moment to share opinions and suggestions. We went with SW Shoji white for the brick, SW Anew Gray for the soffit and fascia, and decided to accent the gutters and downspouts with SW Iron Ore. What a difference......See MoreExterior Advice
Comments (9)Thanks for the pix. Its a nice house but it appears to have trouble finding balance. The left and right sides are jarringly dissimilar. The left and the columns & lantern are a more classic style that is symmetrical and predictable, while the right and the entry wall are choppy, blocky and all cut up with the white outlined siding, competing with the classic columned entry of the home. The plate glass windows on the right are another jarring element that doesn't suit a classic colonial look. The fact that the brick is only a facade is another issue, and the imbalance of the landscape installations are throwing off the balance too. What kind of budget do you have to work with? Are you replacing the siding because it is old/damaged, or just for esthetic reasons? On the interior, do you have a two-story foyer? Could the siding and windows there be changed? What rooms are behind the big bump-out? Do they need picture windows? If you are going to consider painting the brick, take a look at Romabio for something a bit more durable, but still not a perfect solution. Look at color to work with your roof, and consider how to minimize the white outlined sections under the porch and on the bump-out. Here are some neutral color ideas (and a whitewash) if you decide to go that direction. Another consideration would be to treat the entire bump-out as trim. Painting it to match your other trim and columns might soften its impact on the look....See Morehome exterior advice? looking for quick fixes..
