having a hard time deciding with or without shutters... I do feel the black shutters balance everything and add length to the window...

LOL the black shutters have nothing to do with winter. misunderstanding. I was really questioning whether or not you still love the black shutters. The LR room window is fine with or without the shutters. I guess I was thinking that you might be happier with a shutter closer to your roof colour (but I know you have already painted them!). We are all looking forward to seeing Riverway. You are doing a nice job with your home cc, keeping enjoying it. You might need to live with Riverway thru the winter, to see how you feel about it next summer.

just an idea: I would still love to see your house number on a plaque using four (instead of 4.) craft store (ie Michaels) should have an unfinished plaque for under $10 and you could add the four in letters for under $5 ea. or less. And I hope you keep an eye out for a much larger porch lantern (especially if you remove the LR shutters. :). Enjoy

another thing cc, if you just update your house number to four on a plaque and centre it under the light it would help balance out the smaller fixture and add more weight to that area. so much is in the small details.

I do like the colour. second coat is on. does appear brighter/lighter than I assumed!

yes, there are plenty of blues that look fantastic with black. I like this as a change. It seems just the right depth. Maybe you could show us a picture from the road? I see fall decor in your eyes !! Oh and remember if you have paint left over you could always paint a plastic urn, pot or other decorative item with it. just keep a tiny bit in a glass jar for door touchups. the original blue was lovely just not enough of a difference in depth of colour with the black.

as soon as we get the door hardware on I will forward a photo... so far the black handle looks amazing with the door colour. Christopher, that is a wonderful idea. I never thought of painting something for the porch now that the door is painted. grest idea!

I would like to see it from street view. But let that paint cure before you close the door tight!

Cushion on chair with blue and black would be sweet. I would do black for flower pots. They ground your look more and repeat your black. I am guessing you need the shutters on the big window. 🙃

A couple ideas for chair on porch.

cc my vote is to keep the shutters. They give balance.

I love adding the odd splash of the door colour. Mix it up. It just helps reinforce the door. I also remember you have some interesting pieces of exterior items. Would your scarecrow sit on your chair? or is the chair going inside soon?

You have 4 -5 months of somewhat dreary weather so that a little colour at your entry will liven it up. You have enough black and your house sits back from the road so cheer it up with colour. Even just stripes on a pot or plaque painted Riverway will help. enjoy! if you are considering any other decor item to paint, maybe give us a peak and we can advise you.

Very nice changes, that said, I think you really need a larger light. It can really make a nice statement, it needn't be expensive keep a look for a nice but larger light fixture.

The door is perfect! Love the black hardware. Your before and after photos tell the story well. Happy Ending! Now the fun of decorating for Fall.

Some painted pumpkins out in that bed in groups of 3-4 would be awesome. Painted pumpkins and gourds last a long time too as long as they don’t have broken outer skin. So fun.

cc it might be time to put a clear coat only on the top deck of your porch. (the rest needs to weather some more) You don't need colour as you don't have to worry about UV rays and clear coat is far easier to maintain and is much more natural in your setting.

I think an oval shape would work well for single digit number. Something like this shape. You can get a piece of wood with routed edge from Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.

You are on the right track. Single digits are difficult to beef up. You will require a much larger and thicker 4 than you currently have to make any significant difference. Don't know if you are currently going into stores, but if you are, maybe check out Michaels and see what you can put together. be covid safe

Look for 6" or 8" letters.

Or you could always make your own with thick white nautical rope. Handcrafted is always good. (on a beautiful plaque (home hardware sells rope by the foot/metre.)

don't use old rope like this :) LOL and nicer plaque please. 1. trace 4 on plaque with pencil 2. add glue (glue gun if you have one) 3. add white rope..voilla

Any clear coat could be slippery and eventually peel....look for a deck treatment that penetrates and protects...they are available in colors or clear....and all the wood parts would benefit from this as a protection from sun and rain damage and splitting

if properly applied, it shouldn't peel unless the wood is still treated with another product. Your floor has weathered enough. (sides aren't ready yet. (another year of weathering for them) don't be tempted to add colour. ( You will have to keep sanding it off as the snow and ice will damage it.)

CC I also noticed that the trim is missing from porch posts. The place you bought the railings should have the trim/covering for the post bases. It is little things like those that keep it from looking finished (they are probably 2 pieces that snap on)

sshould I put another coat of thompsons water seal on the porch or leave it? that's what I used last year shortly after it was built... not sure how good it works.
as for the trim, what do you mean Christopher? I never noticed something was missing. we had a man build it so maybe this is something he forgot? I'm also looking at light fixtures for the outside but want to make sure I have the room if I'm doing a large number frame and then to out light over it.

Christopher. I think the post is merely support leg and doesn’t typically get trim? Do you mean the little post between the newel posts?

Perhaps the trim covering to cover the screw holes?

On the base of the posts

CC There should be covers for the base of posts. (newel post). the covers hide the screws/fsteners at the base. Maybe call the supplier of the railing or the hardware store, big box store. I will try and find a photo for you. Thompson's will last for a year and is easy to apply will roller. The benefit is it doesn't build up and a quick sand with a drywall pole sander will have it ready to seal. I wouldn't seal the parts that haven't greyed down. It will peel if it is not ready.

it appears that whoever built the railing forgot to finish it. They snap on and finish the job. do you know where he purchased railing supplies. below is an example
