Stephen F Austin was one of the founding fathers of Texas, but Sam Houston was "the father of Texas." Austin & Tyler are cities here; Austin is our state capital, & Tyler is the Rose Capital! about those old-fashioned names: I recently checked a site for people named Sylvia; almost all of them were in their nineties. When I was a little girl, I never met another Sylvia, & I always wanted to be Debbie or Cindy or Peggy or Linda or Sharon. However, unlike my Debbie, etc friends, I never had to be called Sylvia T or Sylvia 1, 2, or 3 in those crowded boomer-era schoolrooms. & it varies with the community; A Mexican-American friend at work told me that it's a popular name with Spanish-speaking families; she said I'm the only non-Hispanic Sylvia she's ever met! Today, I like my name; it seems to fit me as a grown-up better than it fit me as a child.

This was really interesting! Did you notice that all the featured kitchens except one were really, really white? Even the one with a light wood wall was so very white everywhere else, it still reads as a white kitchen. Thinking about what will be seen as a "teens" kitchen in another 10 years, I think the kind of island pendant like the one in my link may be a hallmark. (I would have pasted in a photo, but it came up really huge!) Also, check the link to the first kitchen. In the before photo, all the lowers are standard cupboards which were replaced by lower drawers - bet the owner loves that! Notice they also eliminated the upper to the left of the sink in the corner. But here is where it would have helped if the owner had been a GW person: The fridge has been moved further down the kitchen to the adjacent wall. Notice that the fridge and pantry doors whack each other? There's also a huge dead space in that corner unless they made another cupboard opening into the room behind the kitchen wall. The headboard is a DIY. "The process is quite simple. Build a simple wood frame from 2x4s, and add crossbeams. Drill small holes to put cords through in the bottom of each opening. Paint your frame and screw to the wall. Fill each space with lights and connect all cords. Cut translucent panels from polycarbonate sheet and fix to the frame with screws." If you are selling in six years your appliances will be considered older then anyway, so get what you like and what works best for you now. The other thing about white is that they sometimes do not work well with some white cabinets so be sure to bring a sample door with you when you go shopping. In six years what sells kitchens may be very different than what sells kitchens today so if you are hoping to do a redo for future revenue you should rethink it for you will not make a profit on this project so really take resale out of your design equation and do what works for your style home and in finishes you like. contrary to what hgtv tries to convince us of, not every home buyer is generic. For every buyer who likes white kitchens there is at least another one who will not buy a house because of a white kitchen so you will never be able to please more than 50% of buyers no matter what choices you make so try to please yourself only.
