Comments (16)You need a better room arrangement. Try flanking the fireplace with the chairs. Get a bigger rug, as large as the one in the rendering below, and pull both chairs so the front legs are on it. Lose the mirror over the mantel. It's not interesting and only reflects the ceiling. Find a big piece of art that you love and build the room around it....See Moreneed help decorating my kitchen desk for under $150
Comments (33)P, if I understand correctly, you want your nook to be as organized as your kitchen appears to be (I see nothing on your counters or table,) yet it should feel like your space to manage your household's organization and feel like a a space that welcomes you? I'd suggest you Google "home office kitchen" for some images of spaces that appeal to you, keeping in mind ways you can discreetly keep the paperwork and boxes that are probably visually distracting you. Also Google "children's home art gallery wall, as you may want to coordinate the wall behind your desk with your work nook. Are you crafty and do you have time with three small children to DIY any projects? Again, Google hacks for a high-end look that will need with your space, yet reflect your personality and inspire you to completeness necessary to run your home. Lots of good suggestions here, but you need to think about what this space needs to do in terms of function, how it should appeal to you aesthetically, and how you can make it work budget-wise. BTW, what you're doing is what teachers do every summer . Don't be afraid to look at some of their ideas, pictures, and blogs. Carol ETA: Post some pictures, even if they don't fit your budget. I'm sure you'll get some good ideas on how to get something similar less expensively....See MoreI need help on kitchen paint and decorating ideas.
Comments (5)You want to "dress up" and Houzzers are saying "lighten up." I think you can do both. Everyone above has made valid suggestions. In addition to those, install a family friendly magnetic bulletin board somewhere so you can clear off the fridge. A cluttered fridge doesn't look dressy. When that one dies, see if a counter depth one will fit that spot. When you have the budget for it, a lighter countertop would do wonders to make the place brighter, and you could dress it in the latest trendy fashion that you like. Dress up the floor with a larger rug to fill the work area. Ruggable has washable ones at 15% off right now. How about a pretty centerpiece on the table? If that's a bistro height table, then "dressy" would mean a standard table, IMO. Bistro height is pretty casual, not really accessible for elders or toddlers, and just not a look I like....See MoreHey guys! Need a little help with white kitchen decor.
Comments (6)I am partial to pale yellow walls with white kitchens lacking in warmth. Yellow is not a trending wall color for kitchens, so you have to step out of the box going this route. This photo is from an older blog. https://www.houstoniamag.com/home-and-real-estate/2013/12/kitchen-remodeling-when-less-is-more-december-2013. I think green, blue and especially red accessories goes great with pale yellow walls. The wood island also adds warmth. The problem is finding the right yellow. I painted my white/gray and black kitchen BM Windham Cream, my favorite yellow paint color. It looks a lot like the color in this photo. If this is too much color for your friend's taste, I really like the kitchen ideas that @herbflavor posted. You could start with tea towels first to see what colors compliment the kitchen and your friend's taste before proceeding....See Morelisaam
