Windows Design Dilemma Bedroom

Blinds for bedroom

We just added four new windows to our bedroom. now have two walls of windows looking into our backyard. Love the view during the day but need a shade option for evenings. would like a clean but high end look. The world of blinds is overwhelming! any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Since you haven’t done the trim yet this would be the perfect opportunity to put in the motorized solar roll ups. They’re so great, and only need a remote to roll them up and down.

Soalr shades give no privacy at night BTW I actually love drapes in bedrooms vesus blinds I would just do drapes the stack back will cover a small amount of window on the side but not enough to block the view during the day. I find blinds by themselves a bit cold looking in a bedroom

I've had them made by Calico Corners and by American Blinds. I have also made my own with fabrics from various vendors and blackout lining from Fabric Guru (online).

I have them in my bedroom with a blackout liner. Light still gets in around the edges. The shades are mounted about an inch out from the window frame, so plenty of light gets in around the edges. Mine are mounted on the wall above the window frame.

Are you renting or do you own? Some apartment managers want all the window coverings the same.. That said...you could do roller shades...inside mount if windows are deep enough or outside mount if not. Do you need privacy or something to keep the sun from being too bright? Then use draw draperies or sheer curtains. Lots of things you can do. I will confess, I have the vertical plastic blinds in my TV room and really like them because they close up and no sun glare or open to see outside. I find them practical if not trendy.

I think a woven shade would be perfect, and introduce some nice texture. I'd look for a light tan color that coordinates with your floors. You can add a blackout lining. You could also use white, but that would be pretty basic. You don't have enough room on each end to mount a rod across the windows for drapes due to your slanted ceiling, so blinds are best.

I agree that a wall of draperies would be best. Not only for the reasons that Patricia Colwell said, but also because blinds won’t keep out the sun in the morning, even if you have black-out ones, they allow light to come around the edges. On a July morning with all those windows you will be awakened at 4:30 with sun in your eyes.

You may want to think about a recessed ceiling track for draperies. A clean modern look, and no bulky curtain rod to deal with. I have a wall of windows in my bedroom, and I have the recessed ceiling track with draperies that are lined with blackout material. At night it’s cozy and enveloping; during the day it’s open to the view.
