Comments (23)Diana A final word: A House is not a Home. That is a Rule of English, not a statement of sentiment. House is a verb, home is a noun. House and Home are Not Synonymous. "The Dept of Houseland Security warns of an attack on American House." "He went house." "House" is an Action taken upon a diverse collection of organic and inorganic materials to provide shelter, home, kennel, stable, nest for a resident thereof. It is structure, structuring of home. In a horticultural sense, "Soil" is an Action taken up the diverse collection of materials both organic and inorganic. It is structure, structuring of dirt. Soil is the verb. Dirt is the noun. Soil and Dirt are Not Synonymous. That is the simplest explanation as all English words must follow the Rules. You may say anything you like but know the rules. I use "stuff" (verb) as a noun as in "my stuff" or "that stuff" but a competent editor would never allow and, to my knowledge, never has allowed "stuff (noun)" to be published except as quote or dialect. However I will add: Murdering the Queen' English is the National Sport and favorite pastime of the Brit's while Americans, myself included, are hell-bent on proving that Warren G. Harding was not the only one who could write a simple declarative sentence with seven grammatical errors. This post was edited by lucky123 on Fri, Oct 3, 14 at 17:13...See MoreCreasing in ironing
Comments (2)Practice! LOL! Here's how I do it: grab the pants with both hands at each end of the crease and place as flatly on board as you can. THEN, using the palms of your hands, run over the pants starting from the center, to smooth out any wrinkles that may be present, making sure not to "roll" the crease away from the edge. Keeping the pant leg tight using your free hand, carefully iron the crease FIRST, starting at the middle and working your way to both ends. Hope that helps. and practice, practice, practice....See Morebest way to remove an old non used chimney
Comments (13)2500 to pull the stack and fix the roof?? Must be nice making all that ...? We just had a stack and interior attic chimney pulled out of a 3 story house with roof and floor repair included for under $500.00. He climbed on the roof during another job they were doing and just started tossing bricks into the yard. In the inside, he continued down to the floor. Ten feet inside to the ceiling, plus another 5' that was over the roof. He patched the roof with plywood and boards under it. Patched the floor up clean and nice. Whole job took under 4 hours. The chimney was leaning inside the attic and also leaked around the roof. House is 40 feet high and 130 years old....See MoreIs there any way to get crease out of area rug?
Comments (22)I bought a beautiful Surya 8 x 10 highly patterned wool area rug to use over neutral nylon wall to wall carpet in our den. Almost immediately a long narrow crease appeared that's not only ugly but dangerous. I've almost tripped over it several times. Local carpet stores either say nothing can be done or they're just not interested in trying. We live in the California desert - very hot, very dry - 4 months of the year. Crease is right next to sliding glass door. So lots of hot dry air. Was thinking of pouring a large amount of water on crease and then placing something very heavy over layers of towels on the crease to flatten it out while it dries. My other thought was taking a very thin razor blade or very fine sharp knife and slitting the crease in several places in order to let the fibers in the crease relax. I know both of these ideas may sound damaging and absurd, but no more absurd than tripping over the crease and damaging myself. I know there are many of us out here with this same problem, and would very much appreciate any comments or ideas....See MoreNidnay
