We have a 3x7 PR in the foyer (I insisted they make space ofr it there instead of mudroom with a laundry closet - that arrangement just didn't work in my old house). Even planned for pocket door (old house PR/laundry door opened out across from coat closet). But when my modular was delivered the toilet stuck out in front of the door! We put a smaller toilet in, but can't see that we can change the direction of the pocket without tearing everything out and reframing, and even then with only 7ft to work with I think even if we can get it so your knees aren't in front of the door, you will still be able to see the throne when the door's open. And my kids never close the door (well, ds does while he's in there, but not when he comes out)! So is it better to leave the toilet so the front sticks out in front of the doorway, move the opening so it's closer to the kitchen and door slides back towards the toilet, move the toilet to the other side where you see it as soon as you walk in the front door, or just leave it alone? We're going to have to lower the door anyway b/c builder hung it too high (longer bolts?) but I hate to start tearing out walls and tile. Good thing is, the vanity (you can just see the towel bar on back of washstand) is not plumbed yet - have a drain but no supply lines run, this is over a full basement so access is not a problem. The door is not quite in the middle of the room, they left a little more depth for vanity/pocket than on the toilet side. Bad, bad idea. This is where you should follow your intuition. Here's my experience. In my last kitchen we did a simple remodel. I was upstairs with my toddler while the contractor was installing the cabinets. I come downstairs to check on the progress. To the left and right of the kitchen window were upper cabinets with the sink centered on the window. The right upper cabinet was further from the window than the left upper cabinet. It looked awful - it was off-balance and threw off the room. When I asked the contractor why he didn't position the cabinet the same distance from the window as the one on the other side, he told me b/c the layout didn't show it that way. I asked him, don't you think it looks a little off-balance and he agreed that it seemed weird to do it that way. I asked him to take it down install it the same distance from the window as the other cabinet. He got a bit huffy with me and I reminded him that at the beginning of the job if there were any questions regarding the layout and the installation or if something did not seem right to him, he had been instructed to ask me before he did anything. Granted in the scheme of things this probably doesn't seem like a big deal, but my point is that I was in the house and he still didn't check with me. I can't even begin to imagine what would go on if I was out of town. To undo things and redo costs not only money, but time. I would suspend the installation until I returned. Have a great trip!!!

The only way to find out is to ask American Standard yourself, It may have something to do with where you purchased the Toilet. lynnbellealan: You should be grateful you ran into a tile man with a conscience and an unwillingness to get yelled at after the fact. Tell your contractor you want him to make the tile man happy enough to make you happy. How much money he's losing is irrelevant. Every contractor gets a spanking now and then; it's a cost of doing business just like insurance or gas in the truck. Every time I start to think I've been at this too long to make mistakes, my butt starts to sting. Again.
