Comments (29)The installer only left us an extra cord which he did not use. There were no brackets left behind. He left nothing behind. I went to install the toe kick and realized he didn’t even leave the brackets for those either. They’re four missing parts on that too, he handed me a screw. He said this is not long enough go to your local hardware store and get a longer one. None of them were long enough. to head to the hardware store and buy a bunch of shims and glue them together until it’s fat enough in there for the screw to hit. I paid $250 for this installation and they left an unfinished mess. They left the box in my driveway on a very windy and cold day without telling me and I ended up having to chase down Styrofoam. They possibly could’ve left parts in that but I doubt it because they handed me the extra cord that they didn’t use if you pay that much money for an installation it should be installed. You shouldn’t have to run to the hardware store And I did go through the whole manual looking for solutions. There was nothing left for me to make this work. The dishwasher is to the left of my sink which is set an angle because I have a peninsula with an angle. I am so frustrated I have $1700 into this dishwasher with the installation and the kit that I didn’t even need....See MoreAdvice on 30" Gas Range, 4k budget
Comments (24)Posted by allykay I've looked at a couple of YouTube videos done by a cooking school chef comparing Wolf and Viking burners with Capital (Culinarian) burners, and a similar one for Blue Star. These are marketing videos done by Trevor Lawson of Eurostoves. He sells Capital Culinarian and used to sell Bluestar. The bottom line is that the placement, number and angles of the holes in the burners make both the Blue Star and Capital burners distribute heat much more evenly across the bottom of the pan than on Wolf and Viking burners. Heat distribution needs to be considered in the context of actual cooking. There are several factors that influence how effectively heat is transferred to your food. No one burner is the the most effective in heat transfer in all situations. Even CC and BS are very different in this way. The CC burner in the video is 5 inches across and has inner rings. This would provide fairly even heat across the bottom of a 6 inch pan. If you use a 12 inch pan though it would create a hot spot in the middle of the pan. You would need something wider to provide the most even heat. In this case a ring burner, open, that has a little wider spread of the heat might be "more even". Some ranges, like BS have burners are different sizes to accommodate the difference in pan sizes. None of this matters too much though if you buy pans that are made of adequate thicknesses of heat conductive metals like aluminum(good) or copper(better). Pans made of steel, cast iron or stainless steel are poor conductors of heat and require matching the pan to the size of the flame. Multiply cookware is an attempt to add some of the heat conductive properties of aluminum and copper to stainless. These are hard to evaluate because the amounts of heat conductive metals used are proprietary. The performance of the pan is blunted by the encasing stainless, but they do often go in the dishwasher. If you have a copper pan of adequate thickness, not only will your heat be even across the bottom but up the sides as well. Aluminum pans are much cheaper and are very even as well. If you cook with cast iron or steel, or even multiply cookware, you might want burners that have various sizes. It will also matter what you are cooking. A pan of chicken broth will allow movement of the fluid and transfer of heat away from the bottom of the pan much more than a pot of thick mashed potatoes. Posted by deeageaux If anything the new gas Wolf models are worse. They used to be 16k btu with that tiny inner burner. Now they are 15k btu without that tiny inner burner. The previous Wolf burner was also semi open. Functionally they are about the same. To me the sealed burner is a little easier to clean. The newer burner still has two burners(stacked) too, but the idea is that the heat on the simmer is spread out a little more avoiding the little circle of heat dissed on the Eurostove video. For anyone looking at ranges, try to see the range in person, live if possible. If you can't do that comments on this forum by actual owners can also be helpful if they contain pros and cons....See MoreReady for our close-up, starpooh....cat_mom's finished kitchen!!!
Comments (128)Thanks lynn2006 and aliris19--love the pun, aliris! We don't have flowers all the time lynn (wouldn't that be nice though?), but I should have taken a new kitchen pic with my beautiful Valentine's Day bouquet--DH drove to the store that Friday morning (after, during? the snowstorms we had) to pick them up for me! Flaten, I have a couple sets of Chilewich placemats (one set I got at Century 21 for something like $4 each--I couldn't believe it when I got home and googled them and saw that they retailed for $20/ea!), so I know how nice some of their materials can be! Here are some pics I have in my PB showing a few of our shades: Guest Bathroom: MB (reflected in the mirror--you can see how sheer that particular fabric is): Guest Bedroom (you can see part of the shade): The shades in the Guest Bedroom and in our "Spare Room" are the prettiest ones we have fabric-wise (IMO), and those have the most texture, too. The shades in the two bathrooms, and our bedroom are solid color, flat weave, and are fairly sheer during the day--we wanted to maximize our ability to look out the windows during the day, while leaving the shades down (on nice days, with the windows open, we raise the shades to the height of the open portion of the window). We have room darkening micro-pleat shades mounted behind the screen shades in both bedrooms. We lower those at night, and raise them fully in the morning when we get up. Privacy micro-pleat shades are available as well, BTW. I haven't seen them in person, but would think they allow more light into the room. Some light does seep in with the room darkening micro-pleats--there are pinholes up/down the length of the shades for the strings that help to raise and lower them. FYI, they do NOT make the Roman Shade style Designer Screen Shades anymore (like the two in our bathrooms, and the ones in our office and FR which are not shown here). They are only available now as a completely flat shade (like the one in our Guest Bedroom). They offer a range of fabrics; from very sheer to fairly opaque, completely smooth through textured, etc. HTH!...See MoreOver & Under refrigerator advice/options
Comments (15)If they're panelled, or if even one is, there's no reason at all not to have two kinds of fridges. You've been talking high end. There will often be several kinds of refrigeration in a high end kitchen. I have Marvel drawers in my prep area besides the Miele all fridge and all freezer. All panelled. The only way to know that the drawers aren't cabinet drawers is that the handles are longer--which I did on purpose so that people might know! It would be a little funky to have a big stainless high end fridge with a big glory badge next to a Kenmore white plastic, but I bet it could be made to work. It's better, of course, if they have similar fronts. If you're doing two different types, it's better if they're not adjacent. Maybe have a pantry cabinet between, or a coffee/MW/snack bar. As to the Miele drawer temperature controls, I just tried on mine (older), and was able to push all the buttons, but I don't know what the control module does with that. I'm not even sure how it handles two, but I think it averages. I don't have the drawer divider (30" or because it's older, I don't know which), and have always set the upper drawer to both fruit and veg. I keep berries, tomatoes, apples, herbs, peppers, scallions, etc. in there together and they all seem to do well. For space, and because they do as well or better on the shelves, I put bags and boxes of greens in the middle, often on top of the tall bottles. Roots and things I'm about to prep go in the drawer fridge. Recently, I had to move the roots for awhile and some of them have been hanging out in the fruit/veg drawer and seem quite happy there. If you want to know more about the temperature combinations, you could call the Miele technical help 800 number. You should be able to look up the number online, or look up the manual and you'll see it on the back cover, I think. Those guys really seem to know the product's innards. Perhaps to get the exact dimensions you want, the two fridge/freezers would make sense, but remember, at least with the high end units, that means you're actually buying four units in two boxes....See Morebdsimpkins
