It's DH's sis and her husband who buy just about all online and are never home. She had a very expensive Nordstrom package stolen from her porch last year and started having all shipments sent here since we're home much more of the time. DH had already been checking their porch and mailbox almost daily (walking distance) and putting things inside, but in a few minutes time between him going over there and UPS leaving a package, someone had grabbed a valuable box ;0(

I can't imagine what USPS, UPS, and FedEx must think of me other than I must have no budget (or budgeting skills). I promise, I do ;0)

If all my stuff came the same day that would look like my porch. I decided to order on line not only gifts, but a lot of stuff for home, so I don’t have to drive the hour drive then pack it all from the car to the house .( walk way is about 50 to 75 feet)

I just placed an order for a bunch of little stuff. Natural mascara, deodorant, sone pens and such for my daughters Adventskalenders. Even though everything was Prime, I am probably expecting 7 packages for the 11 items ordered.

We don't buy all that much on line really, we have maybe 4 orders a month average? I think the last thing was either a DVD or a cable for the TV to hook to the stereo.

Last night.....2 pairs of Hanes sweatpants ($7.00 each). They're really great for wearing around the house or going to P.T. They have bell bottoms and fit nicely over my ankle cuffs that I have to wear about 16 hours a day. Also fit nicely over the ice pack. Ordered them late Friday afternoon and there they were on front porch yesterday afternoon. I bought 2 pair before I went to hospital and liked them so much, ordered 2 more. They wash up great.

Yesterday I ordered a pack of cord/cable identifier tags. It seems I now place several orders a week. I love how stress free online shopping is, all the choices, and the time it saves!

The other day I bought $100.00 worth of clothes that I had shipped to a local organization that I volunteer for that needed to fill their fresh start bags. But yesterday I had 24-3" embroidery hoops arrive that will be the craft for my 19th Annual Christmas Craft Night.

I honestly try to buy locally first, but the exact same pooper scooper was 36.00 at the local pet store that carries it and 18.00 on Amazon.

That must be some fancy pooper scooper, our Dollar Store sells them for $5.98 whereas the pet store, which is right next door is triple the cost.

Do you find many things that are worth buying?

I remember even back during my active years of service, prices in stateside exchanges weren't exciting. You'd find the odd thing here or there but there was a lot of stuff that was overpriced in civilian stores (before going on sale) and a "sale" comparable price in the exchanges.

I can't remember the last time I ordered anything from Amazon. My last online purchase was 600 black grommets from Ebay.

I'm concerned about the eco-cost of all these deliveries. I seldom need the 'whatever' instantly. Could Amazon 'batch' orders into ONE delivery to arrive in X days?

I was unable to find a *small* month-by-month paper calendar anywhere local. It seems ridiculous for someone to drive to my house to deliver a little seven-dollar item. How is that cost effective for Amazon? It can't be 'green'.

I think it was a book. I don't order much on Amazon. I buy quite a bit on Ebay. The last thing I bought on Ebay was Advantage ll for kittens.

@chisue - Maybe google pop-up Calendar stores. Our malls do them at Christmas and that's where I buy my daytimer and little calendar.

How about the energy waste/cost of "shopping", driving from store to store, looking at items and prices before making a buying decision?

Elmer, I only use it for major purchases. Recently bought a 75" LG TV for daughter's entertainment room for $1,899.00 versus Amazon $1,996.00. Because it's tax free, total savings was about $245.00. Certainly worth the effort.

For comparably priced items, the sales tax is often the only savings.

It's just another option for veterans to consider.

Yes, and they do that quite often for me. It's not uncommon to receive a combined order in one box, shipped from the local Amazon facility.

Amazon will usually ask me to consent to a combined order for a $5 credit at Whole Foods, etc.

Edited to add: the combined order $5 credit usually involves a delayed deliver..more than 2 days.

Haven't made an Amazon order since summer 2017. I ordered a sterling Sun-Moon-Universe ring for the twelve year old who was coming from up north to view the total eclipse with us. My mate wanted her to have the ring as a memento of the occasion. Also on the "space" theme, I ordered vacuum Space Saver bags at the same time. Middle of summer and were were only then getting around to putting away the wool blankets.

I am surprised at how much shopping I do on Amazon. Since it isn't easy for me to go store-to-store any longer, Amazon has been a very welcome alternative for me.

I couldn't remember the last thing/time I ordered. Had to go look! Eight months ago! I would have guessed that it was some of the supplements that I take but, it was rubber snakes (to try to scare the squirrels out of my fruit trees - didn't work) and replacement filters for a vacuum.

I intend to buy a swivel stand for my TV soon - it has been in my cart for months.

I did just buy a used handbag and a battery/charger unit for an old Shark vacuum from eBay - the first purchases there in a long time, also. The handbag was a bit of a disappointment - smaller than the posted measurements, so smaller than I really wanted (and I wanted a smallish one). The difference was the seller measured the width at the zipper top of the bag, not at the base, which would be the more accurate for usable space.

My last (maybe only?) order from Amazon was 3 or 4 Christmases ago, when I ordered some books for my oldest Great Granddaughter. I don't buy much online, and usually find what I am looking for cheaper elsewhere. Most of my online shopping is strictly for brand/item comparison.

I've never been able to get into the habit of buying online. I never seem to find exactly what I want.

Also as much as possible I don't buy new when I can help the Earth by reusing. Plus I like to save money. I don't shop often and I plan my routes around my work. I write down everything that I need on a list on my phone and when it gets completely full like 20 items then I will go shop. Saves on gas Etc.

I know I'm not the only one as second hand stores are absolutely packed. But I also know that I might be one of the few who mostly don't have things coming to their door. More power to us either way. :-)

I seldom shop online also. Heck, other than grocery shopping, I don't do much shopping at all!! Last I time I ordered from Amazon was maybe 18 months ago and for a food item I can no longer find in area groceries. I also order my perfume online as it too is no longer carried by mainstream retail.

I also visit secondhand stores like Goodwill when I am in the neighborhood and also check out places like Home Goods, TJMaxx and Marshall's. They constitute the bulk of my shopping base, as infrequent as it may be.

There comes a point in your life where shopping is really not the big deal or even the slightest bit necessary as it used to be :-) I find very little is needed in my life!

Usually a few times a month. Sometimes more, sometimes fewer. No food but just about anything else. Especially when you see comparative reviews for products of interest, you can usually find what you want from Amazon. For me, convenience, time efficiency and the reliability of timely delivery are the attractions. I may do a quick price comparison with other sources to be sure they're in line and they usually are but not always.
