Where do you get rid of your clippings?
Comments (5)5 minutes, a little wire and some steel post/rods and you can have a compost pile. Whether you turn it or not it will eventually break down. Mix in some browns, water it, and turn it a little and you can have compost to use in a few weeks. Win/win that way....See MorePest plants you can't get rid of -- how do you cope?
Comments (3)I did the exact same thing with an allium that I bought. To be fair to me at the time, I was told it was A. cernuum, a weak species, but it was mislabeled. Whatever it is I have spreads by seeds, offshoots, and little bulbils that form on the seed head. I keep digging it out, spraying with roundup, and try to dry it out by withholding water, but it keeps marching on. At least it is only a problem in the spring. I have several more introduced weeds that are even worse. I'm contemplating getting a hold of some vapam, maybe I can find it next time I go to Reno.......See Moredo you leave the screens on your casement windows?
Comments (10)We live in the midsouth but also like being able to crack the windows occasionally during the winter. I've only got one set of casements, over my kitchen sink, so generally I do take the screens off during the coldest months (late Dec to late Feb) but then they go up again so I can crack those windows open. We have double hungs in the rest of the house and I sorely miss all the casements we had in our last house even though they aren't as "pretty" architecturally....See MoreGetting rid of mosquitoes without getting rid of your good bugs
Comments (17)I used to use the Avon SSS on both myself and my show animals! They do make one that has sunscreen and bug repellent in it but I haven't been able to get it at the flea markets anymore. I tried a natural spray on repellent from Tractor Supply but I swear when I got to the garden to start working I was attracting all kinds of wasps including the black and white ones that bite really bad so I never used it since. I am very sensitive to Deet so I have to use the lowest content which doesn't last very long. I also noticed several years ago that I was burning the plants in my big pots by the door when I sprayed down at the landing before going out. So I go out further away from the flowers before spraying but I see the tips of the grass are now burnt there too. I tried to sit out for a few minutes last evening to watch the sky to see if we had any bats but I got bitten so bad I scratched for over an hour even with alcohol rub and antiitch cream. We have a large creek (anyone from somewhere else would call it a river) right in front of the house. I bet that repellent clothing isn't cheap and how long would it last if you washed it?...See Moreyeonassky
