I had no idea there was a Sansevieria forum

Let me just say, I had no idea people had collections of snake plants. My knowledge was very limited to “the tall one”, aka the one that you used to see in diners and laundromats, languishing or flourishing, “the short one”, and “the spiky one”, I have a tall one and am nursing along a spiky one, aka a cylindrical one, I also recently acquired a baby whale fin, we‘ll see how it goes. The more I read on all of these forums, the more my knowledge broadens, so Thanks everyone.

Welcome! There are lots of different flavors of S. trifasciata.......the tall ones like the plain green adn the yellow edged 'laurentii' you see everywhere. There are also medium sized "futura" types and the small rosetted "Hahniis".........All come in lots of difference leaf colors and combinations.............some being easier to grow, some harder. Than there are many other species of Sansevieria, including S. masoniana (your "Whale fin") and S. cylindrica (possibly your spikey one) and many others. All of these come in different types and/or variegation..........some being much harder to find than others. Folks can even hybridize different species together. Lots of unusual hybrids and variegates coming out of Thailand right now. A fun group of plants!

We've had about three frosts so far in my area this year, and they just keep on keepin' on. I don't know whether you get frosts or freezes in your area, but they can take the frost. Some people cover them, I never have. Not even when we had a HORRIBLE winter a few years back and so many things died. These didn't even flinch. They're growing in crappy sandy soil, I never water them, I never feed them. In the ground, they spread and spread. And anywhere I've planted them and subsequently moved them, in a few months there are babies coming up from whatever pieces of roots I miss when digging them up. I am no plant expert, but why not give it a try and just cover them for freezes or frosts that last more than one or two nights in a row?

Foliage has always been important to me. Blossoms are nice and are a large part of the garden, but foliage is what carries it through the seasons and makes a landscape garden, instead of just a cutting garden for blossoms. When I see people's gardens on the internet usually I see a collection of close-up flower pictures. That's not a garden, it's a nursery catalog. It has no sense of 'place'. The setting is just as important as the foliage or flower in my mind. Where is it located in the garden? Also, I've noticed there seems to be just pictures of perennial foliage. That limits this Forum quite abit. What about conifers and trees I know there is a separate forum for those, but I think they should be included here too. In fact, anything without blossoms being the main part of the picture qualifies as far as I'm concerned. ""

You're a sweetheart, Tony, but that photo IS about 10 year old. I'm the pic-taker around here, so there aren't many photos of me... Some years ago, this forum had a thread "let's see what we all look like." I had my hubby snap one of me in my GH (MY natural habitat! I think I was a plant in a former life, LOL!) holding one of my giant Thai crown of thorns (another passion of mine.) I feel like my first snake plant might have been a gold edged one, but the one I have had longest is a solid stripy green one, much abused, but I am being nicer to it lol.

Williams, Welcome. If you look back many years ago in this forum, I was just like you. It blew my mind then my wallet. I have a big collection now.
