i can't believe how stupid my mother is *epic rant*
Comments (71)Kim, I accept/appreciate the sentiment conveyed in your above post. I continue to feel, though, that if one must use Holy Writ to justify a position OR to instruct others, then it's important (especially given the tenor of our times) to be very sure that whatever divine dictum invoked is quoted with accuracy. With all due respect, I think you've read into the verse you cited something that simply isn't there. That directive & its accompanying promise appear multiple times in both Testaments. In every instance (and in all of the several translations I'm aware of) the adjective modifying "long life" is either "thy" or "your", NEVER "their". So, everybody, we can lighten up and be of good cheer -- God is not going to off mom & dad before their time simply 'cause (like me) you were an insufferable young hellian. On the other hand, as a result of those juvenile trangressions, we maturing delinquents may rapidly (and deservedly?) be approaching our own personal, sadly premature end of days. :-) Since, unfortunately, we're in the mode, I might as well remind the peeved here of the sacred injunction regarding the casting of stones (that would be John 8:7). To any who maintain that they were never in the grips of an irrational snit with a parent (and vocal about it) allow me to say this: Get real. I don't believe a word of it....See MoreI can't believe how this forum has made me MORE confused!
Comments (16)That's one of the "charms" of this forum...you'll get many opinions and alternate solutions to the same problem. It's your renovation, and it's your responsibility to do the research and ultimately make your own decisions. I agree with gglks...go with your gut instinct in the end. Regarding the 2 vs 3 argument...if you have a laminated or added edge, then you can save a bit by going with 2 cm, since the constructed edge will be 3 cm or wider for a finished look. If you have a flat edge with slight bevel or rounding, then you'll probably want to go with a 3 cm thickness, since that is what you're looking at from the side (with no added bullnose or thick edging). We used 3 cm for our quartz counters, but then went with 2 cm for the 4" backsplash against the wall so it wouldn't look too thick. I wanted a clean no-bullnose edge for a simple and modern look. I probably could have saved a bit with 2 cm, but then I would have had to add the price of built up edging. It's all in the math, what your budget allows, and look that you want. We're all opinionated in here and we all think we're experts. And we all have different tastes. I learned early on to weed thru the massive amount of information, and I greatly appreciated all the tips and experiences that were shared. Some I could apply to my own renovation situation, and some I had to ignore....See MoreCan't believe the difference - local vs. store chicken
Comments (15)I assume you're talking about pastured poultry since "free range" actually has no meaning when you're talking meat birds (broilers). The term is just a marketing ploy. For the USDA to approve the term, the grower simply has to show a door for the birds to use on the plans of the hen house, regardless of whether the door is ever open, regardless of whether the birds ever use it, and regardless of the quality of the yard. Cornish cross meat birds put on weight so fast that by the time they're 4 weeks old, they can hardly walk, much less roam through green pastures. With pastured poultry, they are on grass in low cages that are moved daily by the farmer, so they are always on fresh green grass with access to insects. They are also fed grain, but whether it's organic or not is up to the farmer. And the quality of the meat is due to their being on pasture, not the organicness of the ration. Traditionally produced organic birds are raised in the same conditions as any other type of bird, except the feed is organic and certain medications are not permitted. They also are a little less crowded to help prevent disease. I know this because I produced pastured poultry for 8 years in the late 90s and early 2000s. The info about the "free range" came from an article in Consumer Reports during that period. BTW, free range has a real meaning when it comes to layers. Those birds will roam some distance....See MoreI can't believe what a difference a few years can make...
Comments (2)I had looked at your pool thread the other day. We're just getting the list together to owner/builder. This does seem to be a great bunch of people--committed to digging big holes in their backyard, what we do for kids :-) Please watch my thread and give me pointers if you can...I don't know how yet to read something written by someone and then go connect to that persons' threads, but if you search under Folsom owner builder pool it should show up. we're "hotinsac"...which sounds funny, it was meant to mean it's HOT in Sacramento!!...See Morecatherinet
