Soundproofing My Ceiling

Hi Everyone,
I live in a co-op apartment. The bldg is old.....I believe built in the late 40’s. Therefore, old squeaky floors. I’m on the first floor (lucky me)....people above me are heavy walkers & to add insult to injury....have grandkids that come over & run throughout the apartment. We do have carpeting requirements....but they ignore complaints from management office. Moving is not an option. I’m thinking of looking into soundproofing my ceiling. I certainly need to research this & find out if the co-op even allows it. I assume it’s very costly. I cannot rip the ceiling open, but I believe there are materials that can be installed & I guess dry wall over it. My ceiling is a decent height, but don’t want them lowered by much. Does anyone have advice/ suggestions on this problem ? .....apartments especially.
Thanks
