Comments (38)silversword, I checked out those links you provided. All provide erroneous information (in contradiction to accurate and reliable info provided by the Mayo Clinic). Two of your links go to supplement dealers' websites. Getting advice from them is like getting drug advice from a pharmaceutical company's site. Two articles are on general purpose sites, one written by an "ehow member", neither author apparently having any medical training. The other is an anonymous article on a cooking site. This illustrates the hazards of getting medical advice from the Internet. There are a slew of websites and articles promoting all kinds of products and treatments, by people with various levels of experience and training (or none at all) and with potential axes to grind that are not in accord with readers' best interesta. "Anyone who would take anyone's advice, including yours, without consulting someone who was qualified to give them personalized care would be foolhardy." I absolutely agree, and have said so on numerous occasions here (I have not given personal advice, but linked to a couple of reliable sites, one of which you also chose to reference). People are best off when they see the advice of a qualified physician or other practitioner that they trust, or go to websites that are known for providing reliable information. Here are numerous sources from a thread I started awhile back on good herbalism websites....See MoreCold remedies?
Comments (14)Michelle: You may not feel up to cooking too much...but for chicken broth I make my own. I bake a whole chicken and then pull a majority of the meat off the bones, toss all the bones, wings :) and skin into the crockpot (or soup pot), fill with water, add carrots, onions, garlic, and celery. If you have limpy veggies, these are great for this. I cook on high in the crockpot, or boil on the stove until everything appears to be well cooked :) There's no exact science to my cooking! Usually the bones have cooked apart so it doesn't appear to be completely intact like I put it in. I pour everything through a strainer and viola! chicken broth. (I throw all the strained stuff into the compost pile.) It can be frozen if you don't need it right away. Refrigerating it will bring all the fat to the top so you can skim it off. The broth will be gelled when it is cold, but it melts when warmed. All my friends make fun of me for doing this....but they rave about my soups. :) Lisa...See Morecold remedy
Comments (18)DS(13) was in bed coughing his head off last night. I remembered this post got up, found my Vick's and conned him into trying it. :) I used to use it back when they were smaller but hadn't in years..anyway I rubbed some on his feet and managed to get a little on his chest.....Fast forward a few minutes..he calls me back in his room and asks for some more to be put on his chest! I only heard him cough once after that and that was right after.....See MoreShare your unusual remedies for what ails ya...
Comments (47)Ok this will kill the health food freaks, but oh well :oP You're warned... Hangover MacDonalds chocolate milkshake will cure it faster than anything. I used to work for a DR and he was a nut about health, but on occasion, I'd see him drive up in the AM with a MicD's drink glass. He didn't drink soda...I was thinking he was getting huge orange juices. One day while cleaning the office a bit (his desk was frightening LOL) I saw that the soda cup was actually milkshake. His medical explaination... Milk will aggrevate the acids in your system from the booze, likely curdling and coming back up. MacDonalds fake shakes actually aren't made from milk so much as chemicals, so they'll go down and sort of "Sit" on the acids and absorb them as well. The chocolate gives you the sugar boost you need until your body can bring itself back to normal (it's just temporary) and the cafeen will help with a perk up. I use it myself ever since :) I don't drink til I pass out daily LOL but on occasion, when entertaining wine collectors especially, I'll end with one taste too many (port always gets me LOL I can't say no). I also used to drink for a living (ok I was community relations, but in AK that means you spend quite a bit of time at a private club here that specializes in wine) and every once in a while, it would be hard to get up in the morning heh heh My staff knew if they saw me with a milkshake before 10, they should leave me be for an hour LOL...See More- 6 years ago
