Have you remodeled or do you have a long narrow master bath?
Comments (12)I have a master bathroom that is somewhere around 12' long by less than 5' wide. It is layed out almost exactly as yillimuh's with the exception of the door being placed on the long end opposite the shower. The bathroom is from the 1970s and in need of remodeling (bright blue sink and toilet, falling apart tile shower, white painted falling apart vanity, falling apart orange plastic shower door), so I have no pictures to share. The layout is very functional for us. My significant other and I can easily get ready in the bathroom together. We do have to do a bit of squeezing by at the door if I'm doing something like drying my hair (I have the far end sink by the door) when he wants to enter or exit. And a shower door opening by the toilet will be a little tight (right now we have some hideous accordion style orange plastic disaster from the 1970s). In my remodel (sometime in the near future) I will be doing most everything in white to make the space feel larger. I will be using Daltile Navelli Carrera Star 12"x12" tiles (already purchased) and white toilet and sink. I hope to have a white vanity (similar to RH's Hutton vanities) custom made for me since the space does not fit the vanities I love. I hope to do clear frameless glass shower doors. The space does have a nice large window, though it faces the street so the shades are never open....See MoreDo you have plantar fascitis (heel issue), or have you had it?
Comments (37)Oh my goodness! I can't believe you asked this question! Seriously! Two weeks ago, my feet were really sore. I realized I had been wearing the same running shoes for almost a year. I wear them 8 hours a day at work, and I'm on my feet those entire 8 hours. The grips had worn away, so i figured it was time for new runners. I searched high and low determined to find just the right pair. They had to have thick cushionie soles. I find runners these days have NO arch support like they used to. Salesclerks now point you to the Dr Scholls inserts which cost another $20+ on top of the price of the runners. Anyways, I wore the runners to work and my left foot was still sore. I just figured it was from the bad runners and would feel better soon. That night I was in bed and my foot felt 'tight'. I pulled my leg up and rubbed the bottom of my left foot and not only did I hurt myself, I felt a big lump on the tendon in the middle of my arch! first thing I thought of was cancer. LOL Next day I googled, "lump on bottom of foot" and a page full of 'planters faciitis' sites popped up. I read everything I could, then went to you tube to see what phyical therapy I could do. I bought a set of "Barefoot Science" insoles. They retail for $50 where I work, but I get a discount. They still cost more than the $25 Dr Scholls at the shoe store.... But they are the only insoles we sell that list planters faciitis as one of the things it helps. Let me tell you, step one inserts are very soft. It doesn't bother my right foot, but holy cow, my left foot gets sore. I have to force myself to walk normally, and not on the outside of my foot. What's the point of the inserts if I don't use them right? Right? I also stretch my foot whenever I remember. (like now...) I roll my foot over a can of furniture spray. LOL I need to find a decent sized tennis ball (yeah, they're all the same size, i know. figure of speech) to roll under my foot. I've only used the inserts since Friday and IMO, the lump does feel a little smaller and it hurts a lot less already. I keep forgetting to ice it. But the thought of an ice pack on the bottom of my foot..... yeah, probably not going to happen. LOL I don't see the point in seeing a doctor for this right now. I would have to go to a walk in clinic as there is a severe dr shortage in Alberta. Sit there for hours with people who are actually sick and contagious. Then have the doctor tell me he has to refer me. By the time I get the referal, my foot will be fine. thank goodness for google and you tube!...See MoreDo you have/have you used pewter flatware?
Comments (7)I use sterling most of the time and never use it in the dishwasher. However, a number of posters here have discussed this in the past and they do use their DWs for sterling, some even place their knives in their DWs, tempting the fates with that issue of composite flatware. That's why I asked the question about pewter. I'm feeling like going a bit less formal for a change, but I'm not a big fan of any of the stainless steel flatware that I've seen. Actually, I don't care for the feel of it in my hand. I have had a set of stainless since we married that felt heavy; however, it is now missing some pieces, and the company has been bought by another, offshore, and, though the same name is used for the pattern, the pattern is now very chintzy and rough; and the replacement pieces do not match the originals. So, I've given up on the stainless idea. Still, I need a set of something informal....See MoreDo you have to have a certain style house to do cherry shaker?
Comments (2)I think it'll be fine, especially if you're careful about the finish. Your house is pretty much now, and so is the style kitchen you've pictured, and the wide arch. The word "transitional" is overworked, but generally fits anything that has past elements in today's design framework, and that's really what you have pictured. The word "Shaker" applies to the simple recessed panel, not the minimalist design philosophy here. The woods in your picture of the stairs are honey colored (medium golden brown) and in your kitchen drawing they're more spice (medium-dark orange brown). Since you're opening up your house rather than separating off the kitchen, I'd be more concerned with making the woods work together than the cabinet style (which by being so simple should go with anything). Just make sure you're happy with the choice you make! There's no point starting otherwise....See Morejoann_fl
