Help! I can't take this sand anymore!!
Comments (22)Well, good thing it's growing season, right? How long do you plan on staying in this place? Ask the landlord if you can take the cost off the rent if you plant grass...go with bermudagrass. It grows fast, fast, FAST, and since you won't be buying this place, you don't have to worry about it. It's going to eventually come up anyway. It's indestructible. Bad part is, it dies down in the winter, but it still holds the sand in place while it's doing it. Just want to tell you though, that if you live in FL, you are going to have weeds and sand..it's just the way it is. The sand comes in from everywhere. It doesn't matter how much grass you have, sand will blow into your house at some point. They say dust is made from dead skin cells. With all the elderly people here, I guess that explains why there is so much. (no offense, I'm contributing to that dust too!)...See MoreSanding Vs. Liquid Deglosser Vs. Priming
Comments (8)I'm still a bit confused I guess about your original question. So let me just tell you what I know. You never really have to 'de-gloss' anything if you are going 'up' in sheen. In other words, you can go from flat to egg to satin to semi to gloss, in that order. You cannot go the other way, period. If you are worried about adhesion you can go one of two ways. Sand lightly with 220 grit across the surface just to 'break the face' of the old coating or you can do what I do and use Gripper Primer. Gripper(sold at Home Depot)literally sticks to everything and there would be no need to worry about adhesion, ever(it even sticks to formica, ceramic tile, and glass!!)Any paint job is ALWAYS about proper prep, painting is the easy part. As far as color variations in specific room, I always reccomend to take the color swatch into the actual room being painted, with the lighting in that room giving you your outcome. Always paint two coats on anything, mainly for performance, warranty, and color consistancy. I can tell you from experience, it will tell you right on (anybody's) can, plus on warranty claims; you must have at least two coats. I am not entirely sure I helped you, but if you have further questions, please ask. I'll do my best to respond asap....See MoreHelp! Lead Paint found after sanding/stripping baseboards
Comments (5)Being a paint contractor I deal with lead all the time. I think people do get carried away with the dangers of lead. Im sure your walls and ceiling where originally painted with lead paint, as well as your exterior siding. As long as you have a layer or in your case multiple layers of paint covering the lead base layer, it is contained at that point. It really cant hurt anything at that point. If it was me I would replace all the trim just because its a pretty easy fix considering. That way you wont have to worry about that part again. It will also look a lot better. The MDF baseboard works good, and paints well if your gonna paint it, and is rather inexpensive. Good luck!...See Morecrumbling drywall on my rental with lead paint - avoid or seal off?
Comments (9)We signed a lead inspection paper saying things were in good repair years ago when we moved in despite knowing about this closet and some other spots of chipping paint which the landlord said did not contain lead (we then personally got it tested and the paint does contain lead). The landlord may be willing to repair but from what I understand any repairs will make the lead dust levels spike, and we've had problems getting repairs for basic issues in the past. Unfortunately I don't trust my landlord to do it in a safe way, and we won't know till we get baby's blood lead tested if there's been a problem :(. We are building radiator covers and will probably avoid using this closet and are thinking of moving out. I guess we should report the property to the dept of health....See Morekudzu9
