Help with tile flooring selection

Hi. I’m hoping for suggestions on flooring. I have Koa wood floors in my family room which opens to the kitchen. We are doing a kitchen remodel and installing Conestoga painted (Frosty White) cabinets. We do not want to extend the wood into the kitchen, and are looking for a tile that will look good with Koa wood. We want to use porcelain tile, but have been having difficulty finding anything. We are getting rid of our current travertine floors and would like to avoid that look.

A copper slate or metallic copper accented porcelain like Emser’s Alchemy would complement your existing flooring colors and let it flow almost like using the wood in the kitchen would do. Avoid any high contract that chops it up in color and tone.

Those are really great looking planks ....I'd keep it subdued as there is no point trying to get that rich coloration w a smooth grain as well. A slate look w a tiny bit of light/dark to it. I'd probably go w the large format squares ... vinyl.....maybe cork as I know you can get various patterns/tones....stay w muted look. Do you absolutely need tile? A resilient floor is so much more comfortable.

I like the diagonal layout for your space. I think it will make it look larger. That hopscotch pattern is very cool-I've seen it done in small places w/ small contrasting tiles-but IMO you need a big expanse to really appreciate the movement in that pattern. Have you thought about not tiling the walls at all? Neither of my small bathrooms have tile on the walls. I think it makes them look bigger, and it sure is cheaper.

Here is more pics to give you a better idea. We ordered the floating vanity & LED mirror on Houzz. We did have some delivery issues, but customer service @ Houzz has been wonderful. Vendor packaging & shipping damage has been most challenging....We changed location of toilet & added room from laundry area by moving a wall. DH added heated flooring.& lighting under the vanity. Would like to eventually add an electric towel holder & storage tower. Right now we are stumped on tiling selection & sizing. We wanted to keep it light & airy but not much contrasting. Since we hauled the floor tile from FL to PA, found very hard to match it. Busy format & coloring is lt gray, taupe, white, & some charcoal....DH wants to add glass shower doors that swing from middle opening. I was just thinking of a stationary door.

Listen to the designer's recommendations, but go with your gut. It won't let you down. Just because the designer recommends something doesn't mean you HAVE to go with it.

Wasn't that called Brazilian Cherry Light at one time from Lumber Liquidators?

Slate would look righteous.

I think so, but when I bought it it was called Brazilian Koa. We were thinking of slate.

I can’t remember who it was, but there is a classic GW/Houzzer who used cork flooring in the kitchen. It’s very versatile, durable, comes in hundreds of finishes, is comfortable to stand on, highly reparable, and water resistant. I‘m sure you could find it in a finish that will harmonize with your wood.
