Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I really love that photo, tibbrix, and I did wonder about moving the TV over in that corner. Hate to block a window, though. As for the rest of you, I agree about not being married to these sofas. We had actually started out with some darker green clean-lined sofas that were beautiful (from Crate and Barrel), but the cushions started sinking just a few months after purchase. They let us exchange for these, but I've never liked them--completely different style and not the color I wanted. So going with an even lighter green may indeed drive me nuts. I really wanted a pattern this time around too. What's important to my physical health is to have a sofa that sits high and is firm. (Arthritis in knees and back trouble.) I'm going to contact the manufacturer of this sofa and ask where we can purchase one custom. But what I do remember about them is that they only have this 84" sofa and then a very small loveseat--smaller than our current loveseat. We'd probably have to throw a chair in somehow. BUT I do wish I could get my husband to help me move those bookcases to either side of the TV to see how they would look. It would be a big job, but there's only one way to find out how it would work... The salesman has ONE blue sofa (I never considered blue EVER so have to wrap my mind around that--the rug would have to go). It's firm but doesn't sit as high as the celery sofa. He suggested getting 2 chairs with a table between to be in place of the loveseat. Where would we put lighting for the sofa, though? It would look odd to have table in the corner between the sofa and first chair and then another table in between the 2 chairs. But honestly, my first thought when I saw these was "old-fashioned." On the other hand, we probably can't afford the style I'd really like. Sorry for rambling...

I'm not sure you can frame them in a way that they will have enough presence behind the couch - the scale might be off even with four of them, but a pro can help figure that out at a frame shop. Also, if your budget allows, I think I would get one more of either the orange hued or blue hued pics and just do 3 across behind the couch (assuming they can be framed to make them large enough). The mixture of the pics doesn't work in my opinion; 2 of each just looks too disparate. Then put the other two somewhere else. Maybe 2 more of each color could work and do a row of 3 of each color, one above the other would work, but not sure. I just think 4 is an awkward number, esp of pics that aren't closely related. Or maybe look for a black and white something for in the middle, much larger and flank it with the pics you have (esp if framed in black). Like this:

Thanks everyone, definitely some good ideas here. I'm reluctant to put anything large into that space, like a screen or a tall shelf, because I think it will block the openness of the room (which I mostly like) plus the ceilings are so tall it would be hard to find anything proportional for that narrow but tall space. For now I'm going to play with the lamp and art/mirror placement, hoping to find something that will visually balance a bit better. I'm hoping Carrie B and auntthelma are right, that the right focal point on the wall will make the gap less noticeable, instead of trying to fill the gap with something. (Though I have thought about putting a table behind there, like Nira Juso and Nicole Shields Design suggested, I just need to find something narrow enough that it doesn't block the entryway to the bathroom.) I also like the idea from housegal200 to put a mirror over the couch to visually open up the wall instead of filling in the gap, as I do sort of think the fireplace is the natural focal point, and I don't want every surface to compete with one another. Negative space is important, I'm just not sure that gap is my ideal negative space :) I'll try to come back and post a follow up once I've got my next arrangement. These are the listing photos from the prior owner. The room is empty and I'm looking for help. In the dining room all I have is a table. I really like this Robin Bruce sofa that a local store has but I was thinking Navy. My husband thinks that is too dark in the room and also not practical with the dog. But I'm really wanting advice on furniture placement/arrangement. Would you do 2 sofas facing each other and tv over fp or put a console on long wall with tv?
