I definitely see the blue. It has a cool look but you can warm it up with accessories. It doesn't look bad, its just that you seem disappointed in the blue. Blues and browns look good together.

Thanks for the input! I think it looks slightly more blue in person than in the picture. I’ll post an updated picture once the floors get done later this week. Hopefully with more decorating, accessories, and furniture I can bring it all together and warm it up a bit more. I’ll keep in mind potentially adding more white to the fireplace. I may also add a rug for the room - any ideas on color scheme?

I think once you add color in your accessories and get art work on the wall, and the new floors installed, you will be happier with it all. I wouldnt do anything until the floors are down. Right now, its a blob of all the same color with nothing bright and cheerful. That will all change, once you change floors and actually do some decorating. Pick a nice area rug with color in it. Make sure the rug is the correct size for your furnishings and room size. Then pick your colors from the rug for accessories, pillows, art work, etc.

Blue and orange are opposite each other on the color wheel so I would add a couple of bright pillows on the couch. Also you have a beautiful fireplace and mantle so a few tall lanterns or vases will add visual interest. To fill the space on the left maybe a large potted plant like a fiddle leaf?

I don’t like the whitewash on the bricks…the square vents stick out like a sore thumb (wonder where that phrase came from).

I would paint the bricks black and I bet you will love the wall color.

Depending on what you decide to do, the fan needs to be addressed…it is too obvious and dated.

A simple wing fan…either black, if you paint the bricks black, or a stain color to match your new floor, or a tone like the walls.

JudyG, I’m not a big fan of black and would like to keep the room a little lighter overall with the dark floors going in. Do you think paining the vents white would be a good call?

Agreed on the ceiling fan, definitely will be looking for a more simplistic and modern upgrade, perhaps to match the floors. Thanks for you help!

It looks better already. I would probably leave the trim stained, since it appears to be in good condition. Dont forget to add some color though.

Your room seems to be coming together quite well. I hope you're still going to replace the ceiling fan. Here are some rug and pillow suggestions that will add more color to your room.

A neutral rug would also work well in your room if you'd like to keep things more monotone.

I also think a black/ dark grey rug would work well in this room. It keeps it neutral and yet brings in the required contrast.

@styldod thanks for your recommendations! I ended up going with a neutral rug. I will add a corner shelf and hide the tv wires but this is the updated room! Yes, we will be changing out the fan for something sleeker.
