Comments (7)Yep , seen it in person. I have the same comments about Ge racking. In addition GE's pump quality, heater quality, hose quality, computer quality, hinge quality , ect... .........All the stuff you can see unless you were to take both apart is WAY BETTER on the Miele. Their tolerances and material specifications far exceed GE's Again if you are paying $1200 for that Monogram at a discount it's no deal. If that unit were 600-700 buck, yea I'd probably go with it. I'll bet GE is not giving you 50% or more off as a valued employee....See MoreIs a sanitary cycle worth an extra $300???
Comments (20)"...with the Bright Whites cycle the water does not get very hot." Thanks for saying this. In the race for good ratings, the manufacturers have all programmed in various temperature-points that work for them. In my opinion there's not one operator in 50 that has any idea what their actual wash temperatures are. And, for the most part, the manufacturers won't tell you. At this late date, they still say "cold", "warm", and "hot".....with zero information as to what those words mean. They all use phrases like "Bright Whites" or "Whitest Whites" as if they're selling their expensive machines to 4th-graders. Very annoying....See MoreS/O: why aren't extras/upgrades/enhancements worth extra to buyers?
Comments (28)This is a new era of buying and selling after the real estate "bubble". Two years ago we sold a condo in Florida and a custom mountain lake home in Tennessee. Both buyers were obtaining mortgages, one being a jumbo mortgage. The Florida condo was appraised slightly below selling price. It was completely remodeled by us (new kitchen and two baths, etc.). The inspector told the young lady she would never find a condo in better condition. All new appliances, new water heater, new air conditioner. We owned it for two years, but decided even as snow birds we would rather have a house. But her Daddy told her not to pay over appraisal. The comps were condos in the same development that had never been upgraded or maintained. Many had been rented out. We sold it to someone else for our asking price. They didn't obtain a mortgage. The home in Tennessee was not on the market. A realtor showing another home in the neighborhood asked if they could see our house. They came back with an offer the next day, which was not the greatest offer We decided to accept the offer and move to the Florida house we had purchased two months before. It gets confusing, I know. :) The inspector was ruthless, but came back with nothing wrong in our new custom built home. The pest inspector came back with nothing (yup the bank required it). The appraiser on the other hand was a bit rude. When I said I wasn't too concerned about the appraisal price since the sell price was below tax appraisal value, he said, Oh, we often appraise homes below the tax app. value now. He told us our home was beautiful, but every home in the neighborhood probably had the same upgrades. No they did not. In the end they said there were really no comps, which wasn't true. But the most chilling experience I had was that the two appraisers used exactly the same words in two different states. It is beautiful, but this doesn't count. This is overkill, it doesn't count. Only the comps matter. Only square footage matters. I have bought and sold quite a few homes in my life. In a brand new builder developed area you get the basic house for the price of the model. Upgrades are paid for as an extra expense. Years ago we had no inspectors and no formal appraisals. It seems the banks do not want to pay for the upgrades, and are driving the prices. Now it has eroded into buyers with cash that look at comps and again do not want to pay for the upgrades. Even 11 years ago I sold a home in Ft. Lauderdale by myself (height of the market) and the buyer had an inspector, obtained a mortgage, but no appraiser came to my house. I sold my "model" for a higher price than anyone had ever sold for. Does anyone think that perhaps the banks are running the market??? Money makes the world go 'round....See MoreMiele 1918 or 1113 Washer choices
Comments (30)Short night sleep! Got to bed at 2am. Up at 7am. Now its lunch time. The old machines are on the lawn. The new machines are in the basement but not hooked up. What was I doing at 7am, waiting for 7:30! to call the electrician to see if I could get my 240 setup for both machines and with an appropriate outlet. Currently the 240 is just a wire that gets hard wired into the dryers. So I need dedicated outlets for each machine. Guess What, I have the electrician getting here after lunch!!! I have taken pics of the plugs and the canadian manual specs for the dryer and the washer, I hope that these manuals are the same as for the American sets. Anyone know? Then after getting the go ahead on the electrician at 7:30 this morning, I called the plumber. Guess What, he is able to come today too and redo some funky plumbing for these machines. He has a hand cart too and helped us get the machines into the basement. He will put in a box for a nice shutoff and the drain. And Guess What! DH is on board with pouring a low platform to set them side by side, so that when the basement gets water on the floor these wont be standing in water!!! We live in an old house. The house is high and dry, but when the eves are overflowing and dumping water directly into the soil next to the foundation it practically runs through the old clay block foundation walls of the basement. We can get some water puddles in areas next to the wall, across from where the set will be, but I want to be sure the feet are never in water. Things are rolling along! I'll link some pics in a bit....See Morewdccruise
