My sister adopted a great cat about a year old from a vet's office that had all ages and sorts of cats for adoption.

Awwwww, they are so sweet! Thank you for giving two older cats a loving home; they have a much tougher time getting adopted than kittens do. I'll bet the two girls are happy to be together as well.

I don't want to offend those with other types of cats as there is nothing wrong with other cats as we have a pure white one and a tuxedo. It;s just that Julius, our ginger was the best cat ever.

My cat loves a sunbeam too. They always know where the warmest spot in the house is. Your cats are beauties. I wish I had two.

Just for fun, I'll share a photo of my friend's new cat. It has extra toes, hence the big feet. She says Kitty can really make litter fly! Not good, but they are getting along fine.

Lily, thank you for giving these sweet girls a home! We lost our 15 1/2 yr-old Chloe the day after Christmas last year. I miss her so much. Just wanted you to know Piper is one of my favorite pet names. :-)

Thanks, everyone. I think rescued animals, which all of mine are, are grateful. Piper sat in a small cage from February to the middle of June when I got them. Poppy was there since March. The volunteers at the HS are very nice and give them attention but with that many cats, it's not often. Yes, they're lucky but I'm the real lucky one. They are both the sweetest things. Piper spent the whole night on my lap, while her sister caught a mouse. Good thing I'm not squeamish because it's hiding under a jelly cupboard as I type. We have a hav-a- hart trap in the basement. Previous cats never caught anything but these two, especially Poppy since she spends a lot of time in the basement have gotten five so far. Each of them I retrieve from her mouth and release outside.

Yeah, socks, at my age I should be downsizing but we do have two dogs, 11 and 13 and three cats. I cannot imagine a home without a pet. Over my lifetime I have had 18 cats and only four dogs so I'm really a cat person.

Chloebud...I'm sorry for your loss but in her memory do what I did. There are so many sweet cats out there.

Beautiful kitties! I had a ginger that looked very much like yours. He was my heart. I had him for 21 years. He was a good friend and a great kitty. He definitely had his terrorist streaks. Lost him to the dreaded kidney failure. That was a painful loss. I have been considering getting a kitty, Mia loves cats so it would have to be a cat that gets along well with a little dog. My Garfield kitty loved all my dogs especially the Great Danes. I can't handle the litter I am very allergic, causes asthma attack, so my husband would have to take care of that and he's not really excited about doing that task again. It would definitely have to be an inside only kitty, too many predators.

Apparently cats need an experienced adult cat to teach them mouse catching. All our previous cats were shown the mouse catching ropes by Auntie Motley, who was a devil to mice (which was great because when we acquired her as an adult stray we had also just moved into a previously long-term empty rental that was a bit overrun- Mot sorted that out lickety split :-D). But we acquired our current pair as kittens, and while they have the chasing instinct, the couple of times they’ve had an actual mouse to chase, they have done so poorly in the catching part it’s hilarious!

I have also read that cats need an experienced adult to teach them to mouse and am reminded of tobias who I found under an Azalea bush at five in the morning aged almost three weeks. At that age he could barely walk and had minimal vision. About three weeks later he caught his first mouse-a very tiny mouse like he was a very tiny cat. I tried to take it away from him and he resisted. I was afraid he would try to eat it so I even put his head under the tub faucet. Eventually I managed but by that time the mouse had passed. He was not old enough to have been taught to hunt. My cat Hermione was by far the best hunter I ever had and she did have an amazing feral hunting mother but again she wasn't even weaned when I rescued her and her three siblings so I doubt she had a chance to learn from her mother. I think it is genetic. She was amazing.
