Coffee table vs side tables

My living room is very small and currently I am using two small side tables on either side of my sofa but its pretty packed in there. Has anyone with a small living room just used a coffee table instead of side tables? What do you think is most functional?

How about a coffee table and just one end table. Would that work better with your room?

I have. In my case, my sofa was so deep and squishy that using a side table to place a drink wouldn’t have been convenient anyway. Side tables typically hold lamps, but I kept small-footprint floor lamps on each side of the couch. There was just no need for the extra furniture.

I did think for a while about getting one of those c-tables that would serve as a place to hold a drink, but my coffee table did the trick quite well.

I think that the pair are too small individually to work as coffee tables in front of that sofa. I also think that if you want two as coffee tables, you need to have two that are exactly the same. I love those little tables though, maybe you have another place to use one?

Can you post a link? Two things to take into account with future purchases. --Make sure the wood in the coffee table harmonizes with your wood floors. --The room is small, so something up on legs won't take up as much visual space as a solid coffee table, ottoman, or trunk. Can't tell from your photos if the floor trends toward driftwood or golden oak, but a variation of something like this, or a glass table if you get a great rug will work. P.S. Changed my mind about position of the print chair in the corner. It might look more welcoming to have it face into the room within reach of your future coffee table.

I have posted and deleted my ideas 3 times. I’m having trouble with the rug. Is it my monitor? I see yellow and green undertones and no correlation with your walls and sofa, so I am suggesting these Durable pillows from etsy.com to tie in what I see. One idea…between the two chairs, something with a hint of the nail head sheen and a matte gray body would work. Love this little table…on sale at Wayfair for $90.00 and the body of the table is a faux shagreen.

Thanks for the ideas, maybe one end table for a table lamp, one floor lamp on the other side. Sounds like a good compromise. I actually have 2 c tables, maybe I will try one out for a "coffee table" and see how I like it.
