Please consider your choices further. That window doesn't need shutters and I don't think you'll be pleased with the results of painting your brick gray.

Had you thought about changing the color of the garage door...may be all you need.

That works better for me. Nice roof color. A sage green could work with your brick.

Yes, love the soft green but I still wouldn't do the bright white trim and I wouldn't include the brick in green and would leave that natural.

(I did a similar green for trim and porch accompanying a dark beige siding at one house years ago, it was Pratt and Lambert artichoke)

Upvote the "before". Very definitely downvote the proposed "after", even if well done -- ICK.

Only one feature of your home, as is, is actually ugly. The siding above the garage door brings to mind those droopy pants with the crotch to the knees.

Rip out that bit of siding above the garage door and below the gable (leaving the horizontal siding in the gable to match the other gable. Replace what you've removed with either vertical siding in the same color you paint your other siding (or another material such as solid gray bricks -- one of the same gray shades as is in your existing brick) and you will have improved the curb appeal of your home.

You could also paint the fascia black. Definitely don't add that faux alpine wavy trim under the soffit.

If you are in an area that ever has freezing temps then painting the brick is not really an option. Limewashing is a possibility for you.

If you don't want to change the siding for those few feet just above the garage door, consider just covering them with a shed roof.

Your roof appears to be brown so just sloppily slopping paint over your exterior walls will not get rid of the brown.

suezbell, I think the roof is being replaced. OP mentioned charcoal or black.

chloebud: I did read that. I believe the word "eventually" was used. If all the work planned is about attempting to "banish the brown" -- it is brown she hates -- she should replace the roof first. She can spend a lot of money changing the exterior of her home, with or without painting the brick, and still hate what she has if she hates the brown.

A lot of food for thought! @suezbell love the idea of a shed roof over the garage, the would definitely help to break up the saggy pant siding ;) Adding that to our wish-list.

Or, breaking the large expanse of siding over garage with two different colors or tones. Is that a functional vent above garage and on other section? At least replace it with a better looking square or rectangular one. Possibly need a custom made one but shouldn't be too costly. There must be another choice, the round vent looks really out of place.

I did paint the downspout to match the brick and got rid of suezbell's droopy drawers. Not sure how successful that part is, but the garage gable really is disproportionately large.

Now, what did bring to mind droopy britches brings to mind droopy eyelids and furrowed brow.

I'm forgetting what those two "cutback" bits of roof at the base of the gable are called but if they were connected to "cut" the droop -- or perhaps even extended a couple of feet into a small shed roof, that might help.

I like what was done beneath that center forward facing gable over the entry.

Removing the few feet of siding just above the garage door and adding painted treated plywood then using the same width boards to "frame" that space and battan the seams/spaces between the plywood pieces could be worth considering. You might even tap your inner artist and create a unique design.

Oh, gee. It's too bad you bought a house with so many big features you don't like. The brick and roof harmonize very well. You could do light sage green for the siding and cream for the nice garage doors, and that might change your mind about the brown. Honestly, the Before is a 1000% nicer than what you have planned. Look at this palette: sage, cream, brown.

I agree with others - keep the brick and just change your paint.

Please don’t paint the brick. It takes something that is pretty much maintenance free for life and makes it something you will need to repaint over and over. I don’t think your house looks as bad as you think. Repaint what can be painted now with colors that match the brick better. Replacing a roof is not a cheap project if it is just for looks. Change it when it needs to be done.
