It is hard to buy a sofa when you can’t sit on it to give it a try. Best you can do is search the internet and read all reviews.

I just googled best slipcovered sofa and the Ektorp from Ikea, always ranks high because of bang for the buck.

This one showed up on another search and it looks like it has possibilities. And, love the look of it.

Often a bench cushion is more comfortable than individual ones. Good luck.

I second the Lee Industries suggestion. Many good furniture retailers carry their line. You can upgrade to their "Cloud 9" package for more down vs. foam which will up your comfort level. P.S. A good sofa will last 10 years or more. Worth it to spend a bit more now vs. having to replace it in 3 or 4 years.

My sister has a Pottery Barn slipcovered couch and she said it became softer over time. It is in their family room so it gets used all the time.

I totally forgot a brand I use a lot. in design…good quality and reasonably priced….Capri.

Look at Rowe also, not as spendy as Lee. I love my slip covered sofa, it has held up well.

JudyG, I have two Capris chairs in my family room covered in Sunbrella and I love the quality. They have held up very well and are wonderfully easy to keep clean. The seat depth is perfect and they were very reasonably priced-$600 each with the Sunbrella.

Lee makes great slipcovered options. Most cushions will soften and break-in after some use. Just know that the softer the cushion you get, the more down you get and they require a lot of flipping and fluffing to keep them in shape. But if you don't mind the flatter, lived-in look in order to get the super soft feel then it won't be an issue.

Personally I find that "sink in" sofas feel so wonderfully comfortable for the first few minutes, then start to be uncomfortable since there is no back support. When you test sofas, be sure to sit there for awhile. Bring a book.

Everyone! I went with a Lee sofa that has the haven cushions...and I made up a new word called "Sofa Paralysis!" I have never spent so much on a piece of furniture before as this sofa cost more than my wedding ring! lol We wont see it till December!!

@partim I sat in the Lee sofa with Haven cushions with my friend for over a hour...and it was ahhhhhhhhhhhhh...I felt like Goldilocks trying to find my right cush to my tush! lol

Judy G, above you mention a bench seat is more comfortable but I wonder about it getting saggy looking and are there any other downsides? I only have had 3 cushion sofas. Also how do you think the Capris brand rates on expense side? I went to their website and they don't list retailers so asked for some with my FL zip code. One more question for a design pro- what do you think of slip covered couches? To me they look a little sloppy but I do like that it can be washed.
