I would do all brass like the photo, faucet, mirror, handles. Definitely no black with the blue. The marble like tile shown below the vanity, is that the flooring or countertop? I think it matches well.

the house will have black hardware including door handles. there are 3 rooms close to the bathroom so i feel like all the door handles need to be black. will that mess up the bathroom?
also i do not have faucets yet but am a little bit overehelmed by the price of the gold for the vanity and shower. any thoughts?

If you have black door knobs in the adjacent rooms, it's totally fine and normal to continue that into the bathroom (so the inside doorknob will be black), then switch your metals to the golden/brass tone. If the faucets/shower fixtures are more pricey than you feel comfortable with, see if you can shave a few dollars here and there somewhere else in the house (since it's a total house remodel, there might be several places where you could shave some $$ off of a few things). It all comes down to priorities.

I tend to prioritize and select more high-end finishes for the downstairs for sure, and I prioritize the public areas and places guests will see, as well as my own master. Everywhere else, such as upstairs kids' rooms, kids' bathrooms, gameroom (fixtures, finishes, etc), we go way down the food-chain to HD/Lowes. It still all looks really good bc we have excellent installers, but choosing cheaper materials upstairs allows us to choose more pricey things for downstairs.

I saved that same inspiration photo a long while back, but was too chicken to do it! I say go for it!

I hope you don't mind if I pipe in about one more thing. I see the brass pulls you posted above. Those are a curved bar pull with "bar-ends" sticking out. Those types of pulls tend to snag purse straps, backpack straps, towels, and even loose pants as people walk by. They look pretty, but I avoid all bar style pulls in my house bc we've got so many kids with backpacks, etc. If there is another pull you like just as well, I would recommend that, such as the ones shown in the inspiration photo. Those don't have any bar parts sticking out.

the pulls are really there to help me decide on finish. i really haven't even gotten to the shape of pulls i want but will certainly take your experience into consideration.
i think part of my issue is that i overspent on my window and still need to shave down costs from there.

I drove myself (and others) crazy over issues like this and feel your confusion! When my powder room reno was finished I felt like the blue cast coming off my walls and mirror were in opposition to the warmer cast coming from the lighting. I had an inexpensive mixed metals piece of artwork i had purchased before the reno from Home Goods that incorporated both, and when i put it on the wall in the powder room it tied everything together. I never would have thought of that, but the designer i worked with did! So, my advice would be not to stress over it and keep an eye out for wall art or other decor/accessories that can tie things together in subtle ways. Even your inspiration pic includes black in the planter on the countertop and on the soap pump. If your doorknob is black, it will not seem off because it will just blend in with other subtle uses of black in the room that might come from a room spray, a pretty soap wrapper, a black and white framed photo on the wall, etc. Hope that helps a little. that is very helpful J Kras! this process is taking so long and changes have had to be made throughout that i no longer have a good sense of my overall look. maybe i should put together a new board with the pieces i have and go forward. thanks for all your help

I love the blue vanity -- even though you're seeing yourself as "stuck with it", it's a great focal point.

I love the brass accessories, and I say run with them. They look great against the blue. I do agree with the above-poster who suggests avoiding "grabby" handles ... I'll vote for practical every time.

Having said that, I see no problem with black doorknobs -- door-door doorknobs /nothing on the vanity -- if they match the rest of the house. You COULD go with a single brass doorknob INSIDE the bathroom /still have black on the outside of the door.

My one complaint about the inspiration picture: it has a lot of brass "down low" and only a single light fixture above the mirror ... I'd consider a larger light fixture, perhaps with two bulbs. When is more light bad?

I think the decorative floor is one of the things that makes the inspiration picture "work". Since you're looking at a totally different floor, I'd consider a patterned rug in front of the sink.

If you regret buying a blue vanity, why don't you paint it to a color your like?

I think it’ll be beautiful. Since it’ll be used by guests, it will be a special jewel in your house. A lot of people glam-up their powder rooms, and it’s totally fine if it’s quite different from other areas in the house.
