Ideas/help to help bring more light into a living room

Hey all,

I'm currently doing a flip on a duplex and I'm struggling to get ideas to bring light into the living room. The living room is in the downstairs unit and is sandwiched between two bedrooms. There are windows on the other two walls, however, the neighbours houses are less than a foot away, so very little light manages to get into the kitchen/living area. Does anybody have any clever solutions for this?

I've considered a glass block wall, but they are pretty ugly and don't really fit with the Victorian-transitional style that I'm going for. I also thought about putting in French doors from the living room to one of the bedrooms, as that bedroom could be used as an office, or extra living area and it does have patio doors that go out to the back yard.

I've attached the intended floorplan, so you can see the predicament I have. As you can see the width of the property is also relatively small.

I appreciate all the help!
