Is there a fireplace in this room? That would make a difference in regard to placement of the furniture. It would be nice to have a photo of the opposite side of the room to show window placement, possible fireplace etc.

Hello, i am moving to this rental house which living/ dining is huge the house is 20 years old but i can’t change anything because we will be moving again after couple of years. How can i decorate and make this living/dining room more lively.

I like the idea of drapes, the right width and hung properly. They'll add texture and ground the space. The clearance around your front window looks a little tight so drapes may cover some of the far edges of the windows. A rug change will make a big difference as well. Right now your current rug is nice but undersized and your dark furniture and piano are bossing it around a bit. A gallery wall to replace your wall words would be a nice change too.

The look of the little table works with the space. A pair of comfortable wood chairs with separate cushions you can change out is all you really need unless you're spending a lot of time sitting in them -- on the computer or visiting with a friend ... then you might want chairs with more upholstery and more cushion comfort. If you're choosing the plain wood chairs, make sure the wood back is made of the wider flat boards that are curved ( rather than vertical round dowels ). Have had both and the flat curved boards will be a lot more comfortable. I like the high back for extended sitting and these kinds of seats are comfortable and easily covered when need to be changed.
