Fireplace conundrum, stucco or plaster?
Comments (0)We are currently building and considering all the options for our gas fireplace surround. We've looked into cement (expensive), iron (also expensive), sheet metal, wood, and now plaster or stucco. Can anyone offer input on plaster or stucco? What's the difference between the two? Cost wise I think it's reasonable. Thoughts?...See MoreRecommendations for fireplace makeover?
Comments (12)Why ot cover it up with a simple "wall" you build out from it. If it doesn't hog the living room, then maybe a kind of bookcase that comes from from the wall and covers up the entire thing. Painted white or a light color could make it look interesting. Maybe a fake plywood wall coming out to cover it all up then cover that in wallpaper?...See MoreBrick veneer vs brick and siding vs plaster for deck fireplace
Comments (0)I'm building a house which has a fireplace on the deck. The builder's standard is siding on the fireplace with brick on half of the front. See picture. However we are building for a modern luxury theme, and we want a consistent finish all the way up and on the sides of the fireplace The builder is telling me that the deck won't take the weight of brick being done in brick all the way up to the ceiling. I suggested doing it in Brick Veneer instead of Brick but he is saying brick veneer is laser cut and costs more than brick. He suggested plaster as an alternative but said it won't look good unless plaster is on all 4 sides and also up the chimney above the deck (which will cost more than I want to spend). Any suggestions? Why does brick veneer cost more than brick? Why can't I do brick on the three sides inside the deck, and have siding on the outside?...See MoreFireplace makeover help
Comments (6)Thank you! So I primed the fp. I am testing out two colors on the left side middle column. Benjamin Moore’s Super White (on top) and Chantilly Lace (bottom) Which do you think will look better? Should I tile the thin inner rim of paint it black? Or tile just the bottom and leave the rest white? I am going to get a rug similar to this one that has black, gray tones and some rust. Night bring in a muted mossy green color in decor accents or an accent chair. I also like the black chair I added in the pics....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
