My oldest brother is considering one because he has a split level and he has Parkinson's and balance issues from it. So, it's hard for him to get from his lower level or garage to his main living level. Cheaper than moving!

Depending on the stairs, they can be costly. I have been nagging my cousin to get one. She has a 96 year old husband! She now is having issues.

They live in a townhome and actually saw one that was installed, their same staircases. She said if would cost $10,000.

They can afford it, but for whatever reason she claims her husband doesn't want it. He is not spry, has to practically crawl up the stairs. He uses a walker! Don't get me started.

That said, I tried to talk her into it by saying the same as Yaya mentions., You can use it to send up laundry, packages etc.

Roxanna, of course your other option is to explore ways to add a walk-in shower on your lower level.

The least costly would be if you have a straight staircase. Once turns are involved, the price goes up.

My parents had one installed when they moved into my sister and BIL‘s two-story home. Mom was in the early stages of the horrible, debilitating Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. It helped Mom immensely. When they were eventually forced to move into a retirement apartment complex with medical care for Mom, my sister had no problem selling it. From what she told me, there are a lot of used stair lifts out there that are reasonably priced and in very good condition.

My parents have had one for my mom for years. They’ve never had a problem with it.

I was at my parents home when the representative came to discuss the stair lift for their home. 2 story, 1 flight of stairs w/a turn. $25,000.

They didn't get one.

Fortunately the main part of the house is on one level.
