Alloc Flooring? Anyone use this? Pros/Cons
Comments (0)I have a quote for Alloc Elite Laminate flooring. Has anyone used this? We were looking at Armstrong Grand Illusions, but this product is a bit less expensive and i was curious if anyone could provide feedback on it. Thanks...See MoreWhat are the pros and cons of having all your bedrooms up stairs?
Comments (53)Condos, senior neighborhoods etc. I'm 47 and I would never want to burden my child with rolling out my trash (and doing a lot of other things) when I could move to an area with better services as I need them. When my parents were in their 50's they moved to their ranch house and used to say the same thing to us. However when it became clear they were no longer able to live in their house without assistance, they started balking at the idea of moving to something with better services. As they aged they didn't quite realize how much more help they needed, even after we got my Mom full time help during the day. (Mom had parkinsons and started to lose her ability to think clearly, while my Dad kept his facilities till the day he died) So would it have been better to drag my parents out kicking and screaming to someplace else, or better to help them to still live in their home. And since Dad was "clear of mind" I doubt a court would have allowed it. Once my Mom passed away, my Dad moved in with my sister. But that was his choice because he realized he couldn't maintain the house himself and he was afraid at his age of living alone. Trust me when I say the decision is never an easy one on either side of the fence....See Moreanyone have Carrara Marble in their Kitchen? If so pro's/ cons.
Comments (24)I commented earlier, and I have both carrara and soapstone. I love both of them. In your situation with RA and the need to periodically stop to put hot things down on the counters, I'd go with the soapstone. I do this all of the time, and it is not at all affected by the heat. Soapstone is very definitely the opposite look of the carrara because it is dark. But it is a natural stone that has a lovely silky feeling to it and is zero maintenance. Contrary to what is mentioned above, it will darken even if it is not oiled. If you can re-vision in your mind what you can see in your kitchen I think soapstone may be a no-brainer for you in your situation where function absolutely has to take precedence over form....See MorePros and cons of built in appliance lift for Kitchenaid mixer
Comments (11)Are you planning on using it on the platform or moving it to the counter? How much vibration is there? If there's too much vibration while it's in use, it could be an issue (staying on the platform and affecting the lift hardware). That's one of the reasons I decided not to get one for my KA mixer. That and, as June said, it would have taken up a lot of space that could be better used for other things. Maybe those are non-issues, but I decided against it for our Kitchen. My mixer is in a corner where --- it uses the "deeper" space that's in a corner that's not often used, so it worked out well for us. YMMV...See More
