Is it real stone or ceramic? Real stone costs much more to lay. They often have to fabricate pieces (like the bullnose surrounding the shower opening), which greatly adds to the expense. My boys baths are ceramic and they had ready made bullnose that matched and that saved us hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Our shower was roughly that size and cost almost exactly that much. Just tiling the walls and floors was around 2500.00 including materials. The walls were inexpensive travertine 12 x 12 laid straight (diagonal costs more). The floor is a more expensive mosaic. That price includes tiling the ceiling. It does NOT include fabricating the bullnose around the shower, the niche, the pan, the corner seat or sealing the stone. I think we are around 4500.00 including that. Fabricating the bullnose for the surround so it was bullnosed on both sides was 1080, so that was a large amount of the cost. The walls and ceiling were another 2250, including the stone (but it was about 600.00 of material). I guess when you add the material together we were around 1000.00 so that sounds in line with what you are being charged. What does your guy charge per square foot? I think my guy charged roughly 7.00 a square foot but there was an upcharge for stone and another upcharge for diagonal.

I have a two-seater bar area that is kind of what you're describing. It faces the family room so that if you're sitting there eating you can watch TV. Then to your left is the rest of the kitchen and the cook. Now, it's easy to sit in one of the bar stools and turn it to face the cook if you want, and we do that sometimes. When we remodeled we expanded the kitchen into what used to be a too-small breakfast area. So the kitchen table was eliminated. We have family meals in the dining room now, and use the bar for times when there are just one or two eating. We're set to become empty nesters in a few months, so this set up made sense for us. I don't see anything wrong with having a bar with seating which faces the other room, if that's how you want to use it. Many people think of a bar as being a homework place for kids, or a spot where people sit while talking to the cook. So it's important to evaluate how YOU plan to use it when designing. We have seating on three sides of our island, but have only used two sides so far. It's just hubby and I so we sit opposite each other at the island. The cat pictured has claimed the stool on the end while we are eating lol. We have a TV opposite the end of the island. We had a bar height kitchen table before our remodel and I love having the stools at the island (I'm only 5' tall). There will be a handful of times where we will have four of us hanging out here maybe using the stools or not. We have a dining room that we use 2x a year for holidays. @Heidi E Is that Portrush!?! I wanted to do that counter so bad. We had just done our master in navy, so we thought we should do something different. Then hubby and I both fell in love with Southport. I still love Portrush. We ended up doing navy in the powder room as a compromise!
