PTAC replacement in New York City

Hi,

I am a desperate home owner and hoping someone here can help. Our 15 years old PTAC broke and we need it to replaced before the winter because the heat comes from the AC. I am not sure where to start or who to talk to or what machine I need to look for.
I was told that there are some apts replacing theirs for 2200 dollars per AC unit. I don’t know if that is reasonable.

The only way to determine if $2200 is reasonable is to get some quotes. I found this PTAC installer in Manhattan. Call them and ask if they will provide a free quote. Try to get at least three quotes with similar equipment.

It is the company that I was told. You were happy with their PTAC?

No, it does not rebloom for me, nor did it rebloom for English rosarian Graham Thomas (according to his book on Antique roses). (As soon as I have funds to do so I will be replacing it on this condo property. I need a lax pink (but with no hint of yellow/orange/apricot/peach) remontant climber that will trail gracefully along a 3' high cast iron fence and look nice next to New Dawn, Viking Queen, and Tausendschoen, preferably with canes about 10' long (give or take). City of York is just too vigorous, and while it's quite beautiful in bloom, nicely fragrant, and seemingly immune to disease, it's simply out of place here. It's also viciously thorny!)

Digitalflower, I'm glad I'm not the only one looking at that stuff. Some things work, some don't. The daylilies they planted on the Riverside Drive medians lasted about 2 weeks. But if I were the Meilland people I'd be putting signs in these rose beds - what an advertisement for them. It took about a week before I got up the nerve to jump out of the car and look - it's not a pedestrian friendly place, to say the least. Yeah, this will never happen. But, not for the reasons you think. The sort of land elk need is now protected. Not for the beneficial ecological / environmental purposes, they have been prioritized for mega solar companies. Albany has put a target on the backs of Hudson Valley areas like Greene & Ulster Counties, specifically to clear cut vital habitat, forests, meadows, farmland and so on to make room for industrial scale solar farms that render the earth, dead, useless at the end of their roughly 25 year life-span. That's the future of NY State as long as Albany law-makers have their way.

It is SO nice to see a small kitchen designed so beautifully! It is wonderful! I was always a "wood" girl, but in the last couple of years have gotten so tired of my old oak cabinets (but have no budget for replacement) that I think I'm going to paint them. Either a creamy white or a light gray/green. Most people (including a good number on this site) have no idea how small some real kitchens can be! Mine is barely 9'x10' but because the adjoining dining room is also small it really leaves no room for a proper island. Unless I do THAT room over too and that's not going to happen! But maybe I need to brainstorm to find a way. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have no experience with PTAC or this company. I found them and offered it as a suggestion. The equipment you have is made by Trane. I am not sure what equipment they sell. This type of equipment somewhat specialized. Therefore it is important you find an installer who has experience installing PTACs. Perhaps they would be willing to provide a reference of someone who lives in your building.

Here is another PTAC installer in NYC if you want a second quote.

On a PTAC, i have my doubts this is a true Trane brand or just a rebadged unit from another manufacturer...I would ask the question...

if you liked your previous unit, call the Trane sales office and ask about authorized installers.
